About the Role

In this role you will take responsibility for the Risk Governance requirements for all Swiss Re entities in Asia. This includes ensuring the Swiss Re Group Risk Governance framework is implemented appropriately in the Asia region, and developing lower-level Risk Management standards or guidelines in Asia, including branches of SRAL and SRZ, where necessary. You will coordinate with relevant Group and BU Reinsurance teams to ensure regional and local frameworks are up to date. The role will also include producing risk reports for the SRAL Board regularly and providing independent review of the branch risk reports. You will also be meeting with internal and external stakeholders across Asia to explain Swiss Re's Risk Governance framework, policies and standards. In addition to the Risk Governance, the role will be responsible for providing risk management support to an RCSA owner in managing their operational and strategic risk, including independent assessment of operational framework, functional strategy and projects and their implementation. The role will also include management of Risk Management projects and initiatives, including enhancement to risk identification process and knowledge exchange on current topics within (re)insurance industry.
Key Responsibilities: Manage the Asia Risk Governance framework, which includes:

  • Being subject matter expert and provide internal advisory on the Swiss Re Risk Governance framework, hierarchy, policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Develop repository of relevant documents to support effective communication of Risk Governance framework
  • Work with the Group and BU risk management teams to enhance existing Risk Governance documents and templates, reflecting the Asian angle where appropriate
  • Develop and implement lower level Risk Governance documents in Asia and specific Asian operations where necessary
  • Prepare and submit any documents required by Asian regulators on Risk Governance, including the requisite sections within ORSA reports
  • Provide Risk Governance support to the branches of Swiss Re Asia.
  • Ensure risk governance requirements and requests from all Risk Committees are followed up upon and completed in a timeline manner, supporting the respective Chief Risk Officer
  • Lead periodic reviews of the application of the Swiss Re Risk Governance framework in Asia including all Asian branches
  • Represent Swiss Re's Risk Governance function at internal and external discussions including with relevant Committees, regulators, clients or in industry sessions
Risk reporting for SRAL and Asian branches, which include
  • Prepare Risk Management report to Management and Board committees of SRAL and present to the committees where required.
  • Project manage the information collection to be included in the risk reports.
  • Ensure adequate governance and control of the risk reports are completed and documented
  • Providing independent review support for the risk management reports for Asian branches.
Risk Management business partner support, which includes
  • Support as risk business partner to a specified market or function based on agreement with CRO Asia.
  • The responsibilities of the risk business partner includes pro-actively driving a risk-aware culture in the business through developing and delivering market & functional expertise, and acting as first point of contact and coordinator for risk management services.
  • The risk business partner also provides risk oversight of business actions, and monitors regulatory requirements to identify and support the business respond to material changes.
  • Support the location or the functional owner in independent review of operational risk framework and its implementation
  • Support the location or functional owner in independent review of the strategy and projects and their implementation

About the Team
The Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team in Asia is part of the Reinsurance Risk Management team in Asia and is responsible for the risk governance, risk reporting and calculation and monitoring of the economic solvency for SRAL and Region Asia. The team works closely with the Chief Risk Officers in Asian locations to implement the risk frameworks within the locations. The team is fully embedded in the risk management organization working broadly with the SR Group risk functions. The team also works closely with the broader functions in Asia such as Treasury, Asset Management, Finance and L&H and P&C business teams.
About You
  • Relevant working experience in Risk Governance and/or Compliance in multinational financial institutions, strong preference for candidates with at least 10 years' experience
  • Knowledge of and exposure to the (re)insurance industry
  • Excellent spoken and written proficiency in English, knowledge of Asian language skills will be additionally considered
  • Proven business partnering, communication and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to drive solutions independently and in teams
  • Ability to be very organized and structured
  • Good interpersonal skills, collaborative, team player, ability to operate effectively in a multi-cultural matrix environment
