Job Description


What the role is:

MTI\'s Energy Division is responsible for formulating Singapore\'s energy policies and strategies, together with the Energy Market Authority, other Government agencies, academics, and private sector stakeholders. This includes developing and maintaining competitive energy markets, driving the development and deployment of solar and alternative sources of energy, and promoting international and regional cooperation. The Energy Markets and Planning team within the Energy Division takes the lead in (i) planning for Singapore\'s energy transition and resilience, including energy demand and supply and the corresponding impact on infrastructure requirements, system costs and electricity prices; (ii) strengthening Singapore\'s gas and electricity markets and our national grid infrastructure, and (iii) developing horizontal enablers for the energy sector (e.g. manpower and skills development, land and infrastructure).

What you will be working on:

We are looking for driven and capable officers who (i) thrive working in a fast-moving environment, (ii) have a keen interest in energy markets and policies, and (iii) are adept working with multiple stakeholders within and outside the public sector. In particular, the officer will be responsible for one or more of the following workstreams: \xe2\x80\xa2 Formulate robust horizontal (e.g. manpower, land and infrastructure) and vertical (e.g. regulatory) strategies and policies for the gas and electricity sectors; \xe2\x80\xa2 Work with the Energy Market Authority and other key stakeholders to implement regulatory and market structures to achieve our objectives of energy security, economic competitiveness, and environmental sustainability; \xe2\x80\xa2 Formulate and review strategies and policies to enhance our energy security by diversifying Singapore\'s energy sources, including that for electricity and gas imports; \xe2\x80\xa2 Develop and implement communications and engagement plans to support electricity and gas market changes; and \xe2\x80\xa2 Monitor developments in global energy markets and analyse implications for domestic energy policies.

What we are looking for:

Candidates shoul \xe2\x80\xa2 Possess strong analytical skills; \xe2\x80\xa2 Possess the ability to pick up new content areas quickly, and assimilate knowledge from a wide variety of sources to provide policy recommendations; \xe2\x80\xa2 Be very comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders, both within and beyond the public service, which requires strong interpersonal, organisational and communication skills; \xe2\x80\xa2 Possess the ability to work well both independently and as part of a team; and \xe2\x80\xa2 Be driven, meticulous and resourceful. Candidates with relevant experience in policy-related work (particularly in the public sector), and sustainability and energy-related fields will be assessed favourably.
