Within JERAGM, the Freight Trading team is responsible for securing and operating vessels to manage the transportation of coal to the power stations of both Chubu and TEPCO as well as managing the associated freight commodity price exposures. As well as sourcing vessel hires directly from the freight market, JERAGM has access to a number of dedicated Chubu and TEPCO vessels on long-term hire.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 10 years of relevant experience, with the last 3 years in a supervisory role
  • Candidate is likely to possess a degree in logistics, supply chain management or in a related field
Key Role Responsibilities:

The Freight Operations Manager will work closely with the Freight Operators and the Freight Traders in Singapore and London, to operate and optimise a fleet of 50-70 vessels. The candidate will be responsible for all the functions of the freight operations team, including supervising the freight operators, operating vessels, settlements, liaising with other departments and counterparties.

The main duties and responsibilities are as follows:
  • Manage a team of freight operators based in Singapore and London, people management responsibilities include:
  • Setting and executing team objectives
  • Planning resource requirements
  • Managing team performance
  • Managing the development of the team
  • Resolving employee issues and queries
  • Developing new relationships / maintain existing relationships with service providers
  • Oversee the freight operations function, ensuring that any issues are resolved Operations tasks include:
  • Contact with vessels including preparing and sending general and voyage instructions, checking and approving intake calculations and stowage plans, discussing bunker liftings, etc
  • Helping the team manage real time performance of vessels and drive optimization in voyages.
  • Appointing agents and coordinating vessels\' port calls with agents/ shippers/ receivers/ customers in order to achieve a quick turn-around
  • Coordination of discharge operation with coal department to ensure stocks are optimized
  • Manage various aspects of fuel procurement
  • Post-voyage analysis and grading of vessels performance
  • Monitoring and resolution of performance claims
  • Ensuring correct usage of the IMOS system, and maintaing up to date use of new requirements such as emission reporting from daily reports
  • Assist integration of energy saving devices into vessels, biofuels.
  • Monitoring global weather / vessel routing
  • Ensure that any adverse events/ claims/ disputes are dealt with in the most appropriate way, and in a way that does not jeopardise JERAT\xe2\x80\x99s legal position.
  • Oversee the settlements function, ensuring that any issues are resolved Settlements tasks include:
  • Raising invoices and statements for hire payments, freight payments, disbursements accounts, bunker liftings, etc
  • Investigating and clearing old items on the PBR (list of fees and other payments that are due but have not been invoiced) and Late Payments reports
  • Ensure a robust system of procedures and controls is adhered to, and updated when necessary
  • Provide any assistance required by the freight
  • Work with IT to deliver systems and process enhancements
  • Liaise with other departments as required, including freight control, contracts & settlements, product control, IT, credit etc.
Key Role Requirements:
  • Strong people management and leadership skills
  • Extensive experience in freight operations is essential, ideally focussed on the dry bulk market
  • Knowledge and experience of freight beyond a pure operational role (for instance, in legal, accounting, risk management, Profit & Loss, etc) would be useful.
  • Attention to details and the ability to work logically, consistently, and accurately
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Experienced Softmar and/or IMOS user is an advantage
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
