Main purpose of job:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the British High Commission in Singapore as the Events, Marketing and Visits Manager for the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). DBT supports UK-based businesses to export globally, and encourages overseas investment across all parts of the UK.

The successful candidate will play an important role to support DBT Singapore achieve its objectives. Your responsibilities will include event management support and delivering and designing marketing activities in support of the team\'s priority trade campaigns (Energy Transition, Financial Services, Infrastructure, Maritime and Technology), Inward Investment, and the Export Support Service. In addition, you will also contribute to developing and managing the logistics of visit programmes for DBT Ministers and senior officials.

You will be part of a collaborative network in the British High Commission in Singapore. You will work closely with trade and investment officers, both DBT\'s APAC Regional Comms team (including the Singapore-based GREAT Programme Marketing Manager) and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) Comms team, taking strategic direction from the Country Director, Deputy Director and the DBT Marketing Hub in Hong Kong. You will work with UK-based marketing and GREAT teams to successfully deliver evidence-based, insight-driven marketing activity. You will also work closely with teams across the network, including Invest Northern Ireland and Scottish Development International.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the job holder be expected to achieve:

1. Events and marketing

  • You will lead on designing and implementing DBT Singapore\'s marketing strategy. This will include defining plans for delivering a wide range of high-quality marketing activity and events management, developping marketing collateral and social media assets. You will also ensure that activity is aligned closely with DBT\'s overall marketing strategy, with support and guidance from regional colleagues in Singapore, Hong Kong and the UK.
  • You will play an important role to support business planning, advising sector teams on how marketing and communications can support the delivery of DBT Singapore\'s objectives. You will analyse and evaluate the impact of events and marketing campaigns to inform future marketing plans and to identify cross-cutting opportunities.
  • You will support DBT Singapore for each priority area to develop and implement strategic marketing solutions, including developing key messages, social media strategy, content and marketing collaterals. You will support DBT Singapore team to coordinate bids for activity funds, and provide advice and guidance on marketing best practice and processes. Activities typically include inward trade missions, trade show activations and events promoting the UK offer and opportunities in Singapore.
  • Working closely with the Singapore-based GREAT Programme Marketing Manager, you will act as GREAT champion for DBT Singapore, promoting and supporting GREAT activations and ensuring that marketing activities are aligned with GREAT guidelines.
  • You will support DBT Singapore\'s internal coordination of events and activities, ensuring activity calendars and planning documents are kept updated through which you will support the team\'s forward planning.
2. Visits
  • This is a broad support role for a variety of visit-related activities for DBT Singapore, working with teams across the High Commission, His Majesty\'s Trade Commissioner and the High Commissioner\'s office to deliver high quality visits for DBT Ministers and senior officials.
  • You will support the development of visit programmes to align with DBT Singapore, the British High Commission and the UK Government\'s ambitions and objectives.
  • Provide logistical coordination of VIP visits, including hotel, catering, transport reservations and liaising with British High Commission teams to ensure visit protocol with the Singapore Government.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Essential on Arrival:
  • Demonstrable relevant professional experience that shows skills and a track record of successful delivery in a range of communications disciplines including marketing, PR, events and digital.
  • A creative, can-do approach, combined with high standards for delivery and meeting deadlines.
  • A confident self-starter, strong team work and collaboration skills, including confidence in suggesting new ideas and challenging senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including demonstrable experience and ability to write copy for traditional media and social media platforms on arrival.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Desirable:
  • Experience, training or qualification in digital/social media/content marketing is a definite advantage
  • Experience in B2B or government services marketing
  • Experience of working with marketing/PR/communications agencies
  • Partnership, sponsorship and business development experience
  • Experience in managing visits and associated events

Benefits:

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary of SGD 5,211 per month and a generous annual wage supplement (as part of total guaranteed remuneration) of an additional 2 months\' salary paid out in December each year, Central Provident Fund (CPF) payment in lieu for non-Permanent Resident foreign nationals, 23-days annual leave entitlement and a health insurance plan. The basic salary is non-negotiable.

We have a generous leave offer including: 23 days annual leave, increasing to 25 after 5 years\' service, with the option to carry over up to 12 days into the subsequent leave year; 14 public holidays; generous maternity and paternity leave; and childcare leave.

We offer medical insurance to support staff with the high costs of healthcare in Singapore and periodic reimbursement for the cost of eye tests and replacement eye wear.

Working Patterns:

Normal working hours are 37.5 per week: 8.30am to 5.00pm from Monday to Friday.

Please note that the High Commission supports flexible working for its staff. Our current posture allows for staff to work from home for up to 40% of their working week, subject to line manager agreement.

Other Information:

In addition to the duties which this job normally entails, you may from time to time be required to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the High Commission, including playing a part in the corporate life of the mission and supporting any crisis response.
