[What the role is]
The successful candidate will complement Environmental Health Institute\xe2\x80\x99s (EHI) existing expertise in medical entomology and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of laboratory and field researchers to develop an innovative biosurveillance and control programme for non-mosquito biting arthropods.

[What you will be working on]

This work will contribute to the overall understanding of Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s biting arthropods biodiversity and guide the development of public health intervention plans to support operational decision-making in controlling these biting arthropods in Singapore. As a member of the EHI family, you will have numerous opportunities for personal development, not only in science, but also in other areas such as leadership, management, and communication. You will also support other research projects undertaken at EHI, which will contribute towards improving public health. You are also expected to publish research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

[What we are looking for]

Requirements:

  • Doctoral or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Entomology, Zoology, Biology or related life science field. Candidates with a Bachelor\'s degree and a minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the field of medical entomology will also be considered.
  • Excellent knowledge in the systematics, biology, ecology and surveillance of mosquitoes, sandflies, biting midges, ticks, mites and/or fleas including the diseases attributable to these biting arthropods
  • Experience in field surveillance, morpho-taxonomy and DNA barcoding of arthropod vectors supported by a record of high-quality scientific research demonstrated through publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals
  • Experience in the colonization of arthropod vectors and in vector-pathogen interaction research studies will be an advantage
  • Experience in leading a related research project/programme including managing and developing a team of researchers will be an advantage
  • Proficient in biostatistics and use of statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R)
  • High capacity for systems thinking and creativity, and inclination for trans-disciplinary science
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, interpersonal, and communications (written and oral) skills
  • Able to work independently and collaborate effectively across multiple cross- functional teams
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities and stakeholders concurrently
  • Candidate should be physically fit to carry-out field work that may involve hiking over long distances to set-up surveillance equipment
  • Self-driven and open to development opportunities
  • Able to work staggered hours or after office-hours, on weekends and public holiday, as necessary
