About the role:
The Specialist Engineer Trenchless Technology (SETT) shall review (with calculations) the Contractor's design, supervise and co-ordinate all aspects of temporary and permanent works for the micro-tunnelling operation. The SETT will be required to carry out the supervision work in accordance with the Building Control Act and the Authority's requirements. He / she has to ensure that the construction is carried out in accordance with the design, all relevant standards, Contract specifications, approved method statements and safety requirements. The SETT is required to exercise his professional experience and judgment to ensure that the safe and proper construction methods are being adopted to carry out the micro-tunnelling operation. Micro-tunnelling operation shall include, but not limited, the installation of interlocking horizontal pipes over cable tunnel and sewerage diversions installed using pipe jacking method.

  • Prepare and develop detailed supervision schedule and comprehensive checklist for the conduct of the inspection and supervision by himself, and the Specialist Inspector Trenchless Technology (SITT).
  • Prepare and develop detailed Safety Inspection schedule and checklist for the excavation and construction activities associated with the micro-tunnelling operation. This shall include micro-tunnelling at critical interface with adjacent important structure such as Mass Rapid Transit Station and Tunnel, Road Flyover, Canal and etc.
  • Review and check the construction drawings, method statements and construction sequence for all aspects of the temporary and permanent works of the micro-tunnelling operation, modification proposals to the design and construction methods and to advise on necessary amendments.
  • Review and check all contingency measures and their application and decision structure, including all rectification proposals.
  • Follow up and supervise all modification, additional and rectification works closely.
  • Supervise every stage of the micro-tunnelling operation, including ground improvement works, commission of equipment, monitor face pressure, inspect slurry KPI, installation of seals, alignment of drive, articulation, ground movement, treatment plant operation, to achieve the full completion of the work, in a safe manner.
  • Conduct daily review meeting on site with the civil contractors, Qualified Person or his representatives, specialist contractors and Geotechnical Instrumentation and Monitoring contractor. The Plan for Tunnel (Mining) Advance (PFTA) and BCA Approved Plan shall be used in this meeting as a baseline to assess actual tunnelling performance against the predicted performance. He shall also ensure that geotechnical and tunnelling data are synchronised for optimal and safe tunnelling.
  • Prepare and submit independent daily assessment report.
  • Monitor and interpret the visual/physical conditions of the micro- tunnelling operation and assess the potential risks and deviations from the design intent and method statements. To immediately alert the Engineer on the potential risks and all deviations with clear assessment of the courses of actions and implementation of the contingency measures.
  • Monitor and assess the instrumentation results, and implement/instruct the execution of the various courses of action when the readings and its trend is deviated from the predicted values.
  • Report to the Engineer on the daily progress of excavation and the instrumentation monitoring records, deviation of the ground encountered from expected profile, and to alert Engineer on change in physical/visual condition of tunnel.
  • Give presentations to client at regular time periods on the various construction activities, and to assist in the presentations to client's Management. He / she shall also attend meeting with relevant authorities as well as any other meetings as instructed by client.
  • Prepare a report to preserve the knowledge and experience gained from the project, addressing all aspects of the micro-tunnelling and making recommendations for future improvements.
About you:
  • Minimum eight (8) years of relevant experience in supervising micro-tunnelling of similar level of complexity in the Civil Contract
