Job Description




Subject Head/Student Leadership assists the Head/Student Development and the Vice-Principal (Academic and Affective) in realizing the School’s Student Vision Statement – “Every SOTA Student is a HIP Leader with Passion and a Cultural Leader

Job Responsibilities

  • To assume full responsibilities of the school’s student leadership body – Leadership Academy, which includes, but is not limited to the following duties:
i) Identify, train and develop student leaders from Year 1 to 6 (ii) Ensure the smooth executive of student-driven major school events and celebrations such as Racial Harmony Day, International Friendship Day, Total Defence Day, National Day Celebrations, Teachers’ Day celebration (iii) Coordinate the different arms of the leadership board – Community Engagement, Leadership Studies, and Class Management Council and Peer Support Leaders
  • To work with all academic and arts faculties in driving a school-wide approach (and within the CCE curriculum) towards student leadership, which is to equip each student with the necessary dispositions and traits, competencies and skills which are anchored to our school values of Humility, Integrity, People-Centeredness and Passion
  • To ensure relevant platforms are provided for all students to demonstrate and practice their leadership character and competencies in the context of service to the school, local and overseas communities
  • To collaborate with the Head/Community Service in developing leadership skills in service learning
  • Plan and manage the Student Leadership budget in consultation with the Head/Student Development
  • Engage and work with internal and external constituents and stakeholders in supporting student leadership programmes and platforms of the school
  • Manage and co-ordinate the development and maintenance of student leadership related data and resources
  • Conduct regular review and refinement of existing programmes and platforms for student leadership
  • Design, develop and deliver lessons in his/her trained subject area (preferably History, Geography or Biology)
  • Continue professional growth through attendance of workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advance coursework at institutions of higher learning
  • Conduct research and keep abreast with the latest development in theories and practices of the relevant subject areas
  • All other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the school

Job Requirements
  • Have a good honours degree or professional qualification in the trained subject area
  • Have a strong commitment and passion for education and the art
  • Have a broad and thorough knowledge of the teaching subject(s)
  • Have at least 5 years of teaching experience at pre-tertiary levels with either Secondary or Junior College (or equivalent) teaching experience
  • A strong team player who is self-motivated, responsible, resourceful and innovative person with a positive learning attitude
  • Have the ability and/or experience to work well in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Exposure to/or knowledge of the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme is an advantage
