As our Superintendent, you will be responsible to consistently maintain the standards of safety, performance and condition required by the customer, as agreed with the Service Team, at lowest long-term cost.

What you will be doing

As Superintendent, you will be managing and supporting the SMT members, motivate and coach them so they care for their ships, instil a healthy safety culture, are encouraged to maintain "good ships" and reduce the ship\'s cost of operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure that safe and environmental friendly operation is prioritized by ship\'s staff onboard assigned ships
  • Ensure that Shipowning Policies and Procedures are diligently implemented and effectively used onboard all his assigned ships
  • Ensure that assigned ships are in full compliance with all class and regulatory requirements
  • Plan, prepare and execute dry dockings in line with company\'s dry-docking policy
  • Support the ship in achieving its performance and condition standards by providing technical guidance, purchasing and expediting services, T-fitter and T-coater support and other in-house or contracted technical services as required
  • Comply with Oil Major Requirements & Owners requirements towards Ship Approvals. Arrange for closure of deficiencies found in Vetting, PSC & Terminal Inspections
  • Develop the annual technical and consumable budget in conjunction with the SMT and the 5 Year Drydock Budget in conjunction with the SMT and the Fleet Manager
  • Monitor performance against budget or other management targets in conjunction with the SMT and report to the Fleet Manager major variances to actual year to date and future expected variances to end of fiscal year
  • Visit each ship at least twice a year to affect management responsibilities (one of these visits shall include a full ship condition inspection as specified in this manual. A safety meeting is to be held with all staff at each visit and the feedback from the meeting should be used to improve safety on board and on other vessels as appropriate)
  • Verify, through inspection of logbooks, onboard filing systems and records and by reviewing the latest Vetting and audit reports, as well as personal observations that the Company Safety, Quality and Environmental Management Systems are in place and functioning properly on his assigned vessels and report deficiencies as per procedures
  • Evaluate the performance and condition of the ship and its SMT (recommend training, placement, assignment and hiring of SMT member in consultation with Sea Personnel and the Fleet Manager)
  • Participate in task groups responsible for improving the policy and procedures of the company and streamlining the work of the ships/Superintendent (encourage all reporting to you to make suggestions for improvement, bring these suggestions up to the proper level of management and give recognition to those who contribute)
  • Share knowledge and experience with other Superintendents, departments and the Service Team to optimize the company safety records and thus its results
  • Perform Secondary Superintendent\'s jobs for Ships as assigned, when the Primary Superintendent is out of the office
Qualifications
  • 5 years seagoing experience with a minimum of 2 in senior officer
  • and/or 2 years\' experience as superintendent with a company whose capabilities have been investigated (the seagoing experience may be waived provided other relevant experience like shipyard and/or new-building site work has been performed)
  • Broad general knowledge of shipping and environmental laws and regulations
  • Decision-making and leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate in English effectively, both orally and in written form
  • Ability to effectively manage, work and deal with people from multiethnic background
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and good organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a team and inter-departmental
  • Commitment to work outside office hours
  • Willing to travel frequently
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and ability to pick up quickly on specialized software if required
