Job Overview

This role assists in managing the tax function of the Amcor Group in the Asia Pacific. The role will ensure the delivery of effective and pragmatic tax advice to the businesses within the Asia Pacific region.
An Asia-wide role encompassing:

  • Approximately 40 companies, including operating, holding and financing entities;
  • Management of tax advisors and legal counsel assisting on tax matters;
  • Management of relationships with Revenue Authorities.
  • 3 business units;
  • Key management and finance staff located in the Singapore Regional and Zurich Head Offices;
  • Additional local commercial and finance staff located throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia.


Principal Accountabilities

Asia Pacific - Tax Advisory and Planning
  • Ensure tax positions in Asia Pacific are optimised for transactions, commercial proposals, law changes etc, and that these tax positions fit within the broader Amcor Tax strategy;
  • Assisting with matters requiring Asia Pacific taxation input;
  • Identify and implement Asia Pacific tax planning initiatives;
  • Assist in developing, implementing and managing the most appropriate legal, funding and tax structure for Asia Pacific;
  • Advise on the structuring of commercial transactions and contractual arrangements, including customer supply, procurement and capital expenditure;
  • Provide specialist input (taxation, structuring, etc) in relation to acquisitions and divestments and internal group reorganisations as required by the Vice President Taxation (VPT) and the Tax Director Asia Pacific (TDAP);
  • Implement the strategic tax decisions that drive the Amcor group forward.


Asia Pacific - Tax Compliance and Value Protection
  • The development of relationships with other Amcor Tax personnel in Australia, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
  • The development of effective working relationships with business stakeholders, external advisers and auditors. This role is required to engage with a large number of business personnel within Amcor alone.
  • Managing legal, funding and tax structure to ensure benefits of planning are optimised for both Amcor Globally and Amcor in the region, and risks minimised.
  • The complexity of tax legislation, which continues to develop, and the monitoring of those ongoing tax developments including BEPS.
  • Understanding, accepting and working with (and around) the many cultures within the Amcor group.
  • Elevating the profile of Amcor Tax throughout the group so that it operates as a business partner.
  • Ensuring Amcor Tax and other corporate personnel work together to deliver results expected by management.
  • The ability to sell tax benefits to co-workers in business units who are not measured on a PAT basis.
  • Continuing to provide value-added, commercial-driven solutions to the business.
  • Manage taxation advice of the Asian group, encompassing;
  • Income Tax and other taxes


Asia Pacific - Tax Reporting

  • Manage the tax accounting process for Amcor in Asia, including:
  • Review tax entries in statutory accounts each half year for Asia;
  • Review of forecast/budget/strategic plan tax information for Asia;
  • Tax loss modelling (where required);
  • Ensure Amcor’s Asian businesses provide timely and accurate tax analyses at Amcor group reporting dates; and
  • Liaising with external auditors.
  • Review and analyse submissions from businesses, monitor Amcor’s tax position (P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash) in Asia and provide regular updates and analysis.
  • Manage and be responsible for the overall Asia tax profile, thin capitalisation constraints and transfer pricing issues.


Asia Pacific - Projects

Managing and leading specific issues and projects as and when required, including:
  • Acquisitions, divestments, and company re-organisations, both in the planning / due diligence phase and post implementation with respect to tax aspects;
  • Ongoing management of the Amcor Group’s legal structure and associated tax issues, including group reorganisations and management of cash repatriation etc.
  • Performing feasibility studies / financial modelling on planning opportunities identified;
  • Ensuring all local jurisdictional authorities/permits are obtained as they relate to tax matters;
  • Liaising and coordinating with and between business units and other corporate functions on key tax and structuring related aspects; and
  • Finalisation of acquisition / divestment accounting as it relates to tax.
  • Transfer pricing


Asia Pacific - Tax Policies, Procedures and Risk Management

  • Contribute to the formulation of tax strategy, including policies in line with Amcor Group policies and procedures;
  • Support the businesses to optimise their individual and the overall Amcor group tax position by ensuring optimal tax standards and processes are in place;
  • Manage tax audits in Asia Pacific;
  • Develop and document appropriate transfer pricing methodologies for transactions between related parties;;
  • Contribute to the management of Amcor’s tax risk management framework in order to ensure Amcor’s worldwide taxation risks are appropriately monitored; and
  • Manage tax accounting systems utilised as support for calculation of tax balances.


Formal Qualifications and Experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications (accounting/finance/law/etc);
  • CPA qualified (or equivalent) or tax qualification;
  • Post graduate qualifications in taxation or financial related discipline would be advantageous;
  • A minimum of 6 years of significant tax experience in a leading public accounting firm or industry position;
  • Proven experience and ability in Asian taxes. Australian tax experience is preferable.

  • Intermediate knowledge of specialist accounting software;
  • Basic to Intermediate Financial Modelling;
  • Intermediate Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
  • Fluency is another Asian language (e.g. Mandarin/ Bahasa Indonesia etc) would be preferred
  • The ability to travel throughout Asia when necessary.
