UWCSEA East has a vacancy for August 2025 for a Teacher of Primary School Music.The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful and forward-thinking Primary School Music educator, passionate about delivering diverse, process-driven learning. They will bring a passion for student-centred Music Education and a rich understanding of concept-based learning. The successful candidate will recognise the power of learner agency in building compassionate and efficacious students. They will also possess a range of strategies to build effective and engaging working relationships with students and colleagues.Our teachers actively promote the College\xe2\x80\x99s Mission, Educational Goal, Values and Learning Principles through their supportive engagement with students, colleagues and parents. They actively participate in all five elements of the UWCSEA learning programme: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service. On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service and, on occasion, volunteering for holiday Outdoor Education trips.Main Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, respectful and stimulating learning environment for all children, and bring a sense of energy, joy and fun to the classroom.
  • Support children as capable, curious musicians by nurturing their creativity, providing them with hands-on opportunities to explore various vocal and instrumental contexts, encouraging their self-expression, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment where their musical abilities can flourish.
  • Plan, teach and assess through engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences that promote agentic learning and the holistic development of each child (aged 4-11).
  • Work collaboratively to assist students in sharing their learning through learning shares, performances and productions.
  • Employ a wide variety of teaching and learning strategies, and tailor lessons to meet students\xe2\x80\x99 diverse needs.
  • Work as a member of the College-wide Music team, planning learning engagements collaboratively, sharing resources and offeringing insight to the team in areas of specialism.
  • Contribute to the continuous professional development of Teaching Assistants.
  • Integrate technology effectively within the classroom for learning, planning, assessment, and the documentation of student learning.
  • Build positive and effective relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Reflect continually on your craft as a teacher and commit to personal and professional development and growth.
  • Be actively involved in the wide and varied Music Activities Programme, including providing activities after school.
General
  • Teachers are expected to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service
  • Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning, both that which is mandated by the College and that which is identified by the individual.
  • On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service
  • The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips

Expectations and Standards

  • A relevant degree in Primary Education from an accredited institution and a recognized professional teaching qualification or certification are essential.
  • Further training and/or certification in Music Education.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years, Primary Music teaching experience, preferably in international schools (4-11 year olds).
  • Experience teaching students who are English Language Learners.
  • Experience of a concept based curriculum would be advantageous.
  • A committed and creative practitioner, you will be reflective on your teaching and student outcomes, seeking out and implementing new ideas and innovative practices to raise achievement.
  • A passion for teaching and commitment to educating the whole child.
  • The ability to engage with students and to engender enthusiasm for learning is a prerequisite for teaching at UWCSEA.
  • A willingness to collaborate and share your specialist expertise, and enthusiastic participation in and delivery of Professional Learning is expected. Evidence of regular and recent professional learning.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, written and spoken. The language of the workplace and the language of instruction is English.
  • A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
  • Teachers should have a degree that encompasses specialisation in language acquisition, linguistics, or related disciplines and a recognized teaching qualification or certification are expected.
Knowledge of and experience in the following would be an advantage:
  • International curricula, their delivery and assessment
  • Early childhood development and the importance of music as part of this development
  • Training in vocal pedagogy, specific to the unchanged voice
  • Experience in engaging students in diverse repertoire, including music in a variety of languages
  • Proficiency in piano and experience with a variety of musical instruments
