The Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) provides a continuum of services for children with
dyslexia, their parents, mainstream teachers and other professionals in the field of dyslexia in
Singapore.

We are looking for individuals with a passion in teaching Mathematics. Selected candidates wil
undergo training to become expert professionals in delivering educational therapy focused on
Mathematics. Join us in making a significant impact on the lives of children with dyslexia and other
specific learning differences by offering them the essential guidance and support needed to help
them reach their ful est potential. Trained therapists wil be registered with the Ministry of
Education (MOE) before they can start teaching at the DAS.

The Educational Therapist (Maths) is expected to provide educational therapy in Mathematics and
take on responsibilities in the DAS Maths Team.

About our Mathematics Programme
The aim of the Mathematics programme, under the Specialised Educational Services (SES) division, is
to support students with dyslexia and/or other learning differences who have persistent difficulties
in mathematics, particularly with understanding maths concepts and word problems. The Maths
programme is open to al primary school to secondary 1 students from MOE schools who have a
diagnosis of dyslexia and/or other specific learning differences. These students attend DAS for
additional support after school hours. Our educational therapy is based on the Orton-Gil ingham
approach and dyslexia-friendly methodologies.

Class size is kept to a maximum of 6 students per class. Classes are conducted once a week, 1 or 2
hours per lesson, depending on the type of programme. Classes are intervention based. Therefore,
teaching is centred on the needs of the child, with a strong emphasis on concept building and
addressing areas of skil deficit.

The duties of DAS Educational Therapists (Mathematics) include

  • Creating and delivering lesson plans that meet the students\' needs and abilities, in line with
the guidelines of the SES Maths curriculum
  • Designing accompanying instructional materials for lessons that meet students\' varying
needs
  • Delivering face-to-face and online lessons that are engaging and lively, employing DAS
teaching approaches.
  • Monitoring the progress of the students, sharing information and discussing issues relating
to students\' learning progress with parents on a termly basis
  • Writing progress reports every semester and fulfil ing other administrative responsibilities
  • Conducting Parent-Teacher Conference held at the end of each semester (twice a year)
  • Attending al training sessions, staff meetings and events required
  • Participating in research to evaluate the effectiveness of the programme
  • Conduct Maths Profiling sessions

  • Undergo an annual Quality Assurance Audit
  • Complete the yearly appraisal process
TRAINING PROVIDED
The DAS places great emphasis on providing a professional service. Al Educational Therapists
specializing in teaching Maths wil undergo these initial trainings:
i. Certificate in Understanding Dyslexia

Certificate in Supporting SpLD Learners in Mathematics

Professional Certificate Course (Numeracy) - Lectures and Practicum

Certificate in Supporting SpLD Learners in Higher Order Mathematical Skil s (after one year
of teaching)

As part of their continuous professional development, Educational Therapists (Maths) are required
to attend al other trainings provided by the team during their contract term. This requirement aims
to further empower our educational therapists, enabling them to effectively instruct students with
diverse skil levels and needs. We also encourage al Educational Therapists to explore their passion
that meets the organisational needs and we wil support relevant further professional development
thereafter.

3-YEAR BOND
In view of the investment in our Educational Therapists (EdTs), they are required to sign an initial 3-
year bond. The training for the Certificate courses and Postgraduate Certificate (PGC) wil be
conducted during the bond period. If the EdT is not able to fulfil the bond obligations, compensation
to the DAS is required. EdTs wil be required to sign bond extensions if they are recommended and
agree to attend further training (beyond the PGC).

WORKING HOURS
Al DAS staff work 44 hours a week. As the majority of our students attend mainstream schools,
Educational Therapists (Maths) are expected to conduct their classes on weekday afternoon and
evenings up to 9 pm, and on Saturdays or Sundays during MOE school terms.

Please note that the above timings may change in the future if client demand so dictates.

WORK VENUE
Educational Therapists (Maths) must be wil ing to travel to different DAS learning centres
throughout Singapore. They must expect to work from any of our 12 learning centres in Bedok,
Bishan, Chua Chu Kang, Henderson, Jurong Point, Parkway Parade, Rex House, Sengkang, Serangoon,
Tampines, Woodlands and Yishun.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Successful candidates wil receive a competitive starting salary of S$3,300 per month. Those with
good and relevant honours degrees may receive a starting salary of up to S$3,600. After probation
and upon meeting the necessary eligibility criteria (if any), they wil also receive an annual wage
supplement, performance bonus, and other benefits. Staff wil be entitled to medical benefits while
on probation. Educational Therapists enjoy up to 6.5 weeks of school holidays.

Upon completion of relevant postgraduate qualifications, and with at least three years\' experience
in supporting children with dyslexia and making significant additional contributions to the work of
the DAS, Educational Therapists (Maths) wil be eligible to apply for promotion to the next salary
scale which starts at $3,940 per month.

EdTs who teach on weeknights and Sundays wil receive an al owance per teaching hour.

The DAS also awards responsibility al owances, training incentives and sponsorship to deserving
staff. A Masters Degree accredited by a recognised UK university and delivered by the DAS Academy
(http://www.dasacademy.edu.sg/) wil also be available to deserving staff.
REGISTRATION WITH THE REGISTER OF EDUCATIONAL THERAPIST (ASIA) [RETA]
The DAS has initiated the setting up of a Register of trained and experienced professional tutors and
therapists who specialise in supporting individuals with dyslexia and/or related specific learning
difficulties. The Register is guided by a steering committee, which comprises senior DAS staff and
individuals working in the private practice and other educational bodies. The Register wil provide
public recognition of professional training and competence for members. Individuals are encouraged
to sign up with RETA (http://www.reta.sg/) once they have attained the necessary training and
experience.
