As this is a new support model within our setting, we can only consider candidates who are fully registered with the Singaporean Allied Health Professions Council(AHPC). The successful candidate will be a highly resourceful and forward-thinking collaborator, passionate about delivering effective programmes to enable students to better access all learning. They will recognise the power of learner agency in building compassionate and efficacious students. They will also possess a range of strategies to build effective and engaging working relationships with students, colleagues and parents. Our staff actively promote the College\xe2\x80\x99s Mission, Educational Goal, Values and Learning Principles through their supportive engagement with students, colleagues and parents. They actively participate in all five elements of the UWCSEA learning programme: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service. On average the College expects a yearly contribution of around 1-2 sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service. Main Responsibilities To provide a happy, stimulating, safe learning environment in which all children can thrive and achieve their very best. Therapeutic Support:
  • Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy interventions to students across the Primary School.
  • Use evidence-based strategies and approaches to provide individual, small-group, and in-class interventions, using strengths to support areas of challenge.
Identification and Evaluation:
  • In collaboration with the student support team and within our Wellbeing Process, establish screening tools and processes to identify student need. We use a strengths-based approach to student support services.
  • Assess student level of functioning within the school environment.
  • Interpret and communicate assessment results into an appropriate support plan.
Collaboration and Consultative Support:
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary student support meetings to support student learning and access.
  • Provide in-class strategies, activities, and interventions to integrate occupational therapy; share resources based on student need.
  • Develop and facilitate strengths-based training for staff to build capacity and understanding, offering ongoing support to impact student progress.
  • Collaborate with teaching teams (e.g., grade level teams, PE team, etc) to strengthen tier 1 learning and activities so all students have access to high quality teaching of fine/gross motor skills to support self-regulation and sensory needs.
  • Provide information workshops and resources for parents related to home-based prevention and intervention strategies.
Documentation:
  • Serve as a student support advocate (case manager) for students receiving OT services.
  • Document planning and intervention support, prepare reports of students\xe2\x80\x99 progress for meetings and end of intervention reporting to parents.
  • Update and maintain student records using our documentation systems.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times in respect of individual/family circumstances
  • Contribute to department handbooks, policies as and when required.
  • Complete all documentation required and participate fully in professional supervision (if required; see Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) requirements)
Partnerships and Communication:
  • Build positive relationships with parents as partners in supporting their child; communicate clearly and effectively with parents.
  • Establish positive relationships with students: communicate effectively with students and ensure they are fully included in their therapy plans, developing appropriate student agency.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with external agencies and service providers, to support effective referrals and to liaise with external providers, as needed.
Participation in the wider life of the school:
  • Take an active role in all 5 elements of the programme including Activities, Service and our Outdoor Education programme.
Expectations and Standards
  • Follow the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conductand Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
  • Teach in line with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards
Person Specifications Qualification:
  • Degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Programme
  • Minimum 3 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in paediatric occupational therapy
  • Full registration with the Allied Health Professions Council(AHPC)
Required:
  • A proven track record of working collaboratively. In Primary School we work as part of a Student Support Services team.
  • Experience engaging with students, engendering enthusiasm and developing positive relationships with parents, teachers and other professionals.
The following would be an advantage:
  • Previous experience providing direct or indirect OT services in a school setting.
  • Experience teaching students who are English Language Learners.
