Artificial Intelligence, particularly in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Multimodal models, is advancing at an unprecedented pace. With the introduction of models like OpenAI o3, DeepSeek-R1, Qwen3, and others there is a growing opportunity to explore and harness these technologies in domain-specific applications such as healthcare.
This internship project focuses on two key areas:

• Technology Exploration and Evaluation

• The intern will conduct hands-on research and experimentation with cutting-edge language and multimodal models, assessing their capabilities, limitations, and potential applications within the healthcare domain. Special attention will be given to the challenges specific to healthcare, such as domain-specific knowledge requirements, data privacy, safety considerations, and the practical barriers to deploying large models.
• Scientific Publication and Research Support

• Building on the research findings, the intern will contribute to writing and submitting papers to peer-reviewed journals or conferences. Additionally, the intern will support the publication efforts of other ongoing AI and healthcare projects within the team, gaining exposure to a broader range of applied research activities.

The selected intern will participate but not limited to the following:

• Perform literature reviews and identify innovative technologies with potential application and impact in the healthcare sector, focusing on the adaptation of language and multimodal models to healthcare-specific use-cases
• Identify pain-points and formulate problem statements relevant to healthcare use-cases where novel technologies can be applied and bring value
• Identify appropriate sources of data for technology testing
• Perform Proof-of-Concept (PoC) studies to demonstrate the feasibility of implementing such technologies
• Rigorously document and report study progress, outcomes, and finding
• Prepare slide decks and for knowledge sharing with the Data Science Team
• Search and identify the most adequate and impactful peer-reviewed journals for publication of studies or project conducted at Synapxe Data Analytics and AI team
• Rapidly familiarize and stay up-to-date with current literature in the field of the study to be published
• Contribute to draft, review, and edit manuscripts following rigorous scientific writing style and standards
• Contribute ideas to improve the quality and acceptance likelihood of manuscripts
• Identify key articles for referencing relevant to the publication and insert the corresponding citations in the appropriate sections of the manuscript
• Format bibliography according to journal referencing style
• Create high-resolution publication-quality figures

This internship offers a unique opportunity to explore the frontiers of AI while addressing real-world challenges in healthcare. Students will gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art models and tools, develop skills in applied research, and actively contribute to the scientific community through academic publications
About you:

• Be pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Business Analytics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline
• Graduating in May/Dec 2026 or May 2027
• Proficiency in python programming language for data processing and model development is required
• Familiarity with git and github repositories is desirable
• Hands on experience with frameworks for NLP and Language model integration, such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, and Hugging Face is preferred
• Acquaintance with cloud service platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP is a plus
• Hands on experience with one or more deep learning frameworks, e.g., Tensorflow, Torch is a plus
• Familiarity with object-oriented programming is a plus
• Ability to browse and retrieve articles and information from journal sites and scientific literature libraries
• Understanding of manuscript submission, guides for authors, and publication process is a plus
• Experience with tools to create publication-quality figures is preferred
• Familiarity with reference managing tools is a plus
• Scientific writing skills is a plus
• Knowledge with hypothesis testing and statistical tests is a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively and present results and findings
• Adaptability to work on a constantly evolving environment
• Ability to document comprehensively and rigorously internship project materials, including literature articles, code, results, findings, and slides, for a proper handover to supervisor and teammates
• Good team player with strong analytical and communication skills
• Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
