Position Summary

Marriott International is a global lodging and hospitality company based out of Bethesda, Maryland. Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s Law Department provides legal advice and support to Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s internal clients and business units.

The attorney in this position will be based in Singapore at Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s Continent office, and will dual report to the Vice President & Assistant General Counsel leading the Consumer Operations legal team at Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s corporate Headquarters in Bethesda; and VP and Senior Counsel supporting APEC in Singapore.

The Consumer Operations legal team handles a varied global portfolio relating to Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s consumer facing business, including the Marriott Bonvoy loyalty program, Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s internal and third-party distribution channels, gift card program, strategic partnerships (e.g., co-branded credit cards), marketing, sales, revenue management, Homes and Villas by Marriott Bonvoy, and Marriott Boutiques.

The work of the Consumer Operations team principally takes the form of providing commercial transactions support (such as negotiating, drafting and interpreting various types of commercial agreements) and providing legal guidance for the commerce part of Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s business. The members of this legal team tackle novel and cutting-edge issues to support the business on new opportunities and solutions for enhancing customer engagement and experience.

Expected Contributions

The attorney in this position will primarily focus on providing legal support for Marriott Bonvoy\xe2\x80\x99s partnerships and business arrangements that fall outside of Marriott\xe2\x80\x99s core lodging business activities. The attorney will:

  • Research and analyze the legal landscape for launching business initiatives in potential new markets and countries and advise the business on its expansion strategy in the area of enterprise partnerships, and the impact of these initiatives on the broader Marriott ecosystem;
  • Support the business in complying with various regulatory requirements in various jurisdictions coordination with outside counsel, and establish appropriate processes and best practices;
  • Negotiate and draft relevant commercial agreements, such as co-brand credit card agreements, and loyalty partnership agreements and related amendments;
  • Provide legal guidance on related marketing materials, communications and general operations associated with the business arrangements;
  • Supervise outside counsel and provide feedback accordingly;
  • Collaborate with colleagues within the Law Department, and work effectively with internal clients and business partners across regional teams;
  • Identify relevant issues and coordinate with colleagues and across the business on tax, intellectual property, data privacy and cybersecurity matters;
  • Participate on projects or committees as needed providing legal advice and guidance;
  • Participate in department or division-wide initiatives and special projects on an as needed basis.
Candidate Profile
  • The attorney must be fluent in English and have an excellent academic record (both undergraduate and law school) and at least 8 years in a well-regarded law firm or comparable corporate environment. If licensed in the United States, then active US Bar membership is required, otherwise, a practicing certificate from an appropriate jurisdiction is required;
