Vice President, Deal Management

Overview

  • Deal Management Finance supports the development, planning, implementation and execution of the corporate strategy within the customer business agreement process to drive business primarily with issuers, acquirers and merchants.
  • Vice President, Deal Management Finance has the key responsibility of overseeing the function and managing deal process across the region. The role supports Mastercard business in building profitable and protected deals and plays an active advisory role in business, strategic and financial related projects. It is a leadership role with both onshore and offshore managerial responsibilities, and with accountability to represent Asia Pacific region in interactions with international markets and/or headquarter.
Role

1) Deal Management - Supervise and provide leadership to Deal Management Finance team on day-to-day deal process, support the business in complex commercial deals for new opportunities ensuring financial profitability to Mastercard, with involvement from initiation to closure of the deals.
a. Manage key stakeholders in both business and Finance in Asia Pacific region and across the organization, co-ordinate and align with relevant stakeholders as appropriate
b. Manage deal approval process to ensure full internal approval completion to meet external customer deadlines without default
c. Drive optimal deal structure to maximize upside potential, minimize downside risk and achieve holistic corporate objectives in deals; highlight areas of concerns and make recommendations to business owner and/or management as appropriate
d. Performs rigorous reviews, negotiations and scenario analysis iterations on business cases to assess the risk versus return tradeoffs. Assertiveness required to challenge and convince account managers and/or business owners to sell the best deal for Mastercard. A "reality check" on the ROIs, NPVs, DCF for all major contracts.
e. Monitor and track performance of key and/or strategic deals, identify learnings and opportunities for future improvements
f. Drive compliance of corporate and regional policies, establish review processes to ensure financial control and governance compliance to local statutory regulations, financial and taxation regimes across the region.
g. Identify area of deal process improvements, propose appropriate suggestions, execute and drive improvement plan to closure
h. Requires individual to be creative and entrepreneurial, managing risks with innovation, embracing the concept of value creation, move away from inwardly focused and value preservation to looking for outside opportunities to increase stock market valuation and shareholders' wealth in the face of fierce competition, customer choice and new technology

2) Extended Business Support - Drive and collaborate with business teams to:
a. develop and implement long-term strategies to enhance Mastercard profitability and competitive leverage
b. identify other growth opportunities with the customers beyond current deals in discussion, including but not limited to geography expansion and new product lines
c. facilitate and identify new pricing initiatives and structuring opportunities
d. enhance financial acumen in the business, including financial know-how, understanding of business case modeling and processes, financial implications of their decisions/actions, and to align them to delivery of financial objectives in deals.

3) People Management
a. supervise, manage and motivate a team of 12 in Deal Management Finance, spanning across 6 locations in the region
b. member of Asia Pacific Finance Leadership team to drive Finance talent strategies in the region
c. manage senior management stakeholders across the organization
d. collaborate with international markets to ensure corporate deliverables by set deadlines without exceptions
e. represent Asia Pacific in international markets and/or headquarters on regular meetings as well as on deal related discussions, topics and projects, drive broader Finance objectives and targets in the region

All about you
  • Financial domain experience in an international organization with basic knowledge of US GAAP and local GAAP
  • 12-15 years of Finance partnering experience with strong and balanced commercial and financial acumen, proven influential skills to all levels in a matrix organization
  • Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, ownership, responsiveness in managing multiple assignments under tight deadlines
  • Strategic and driven individual with the ability to work well under pressure in a fast pace environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal, influencing, negotiating and diplomatic capabilities, strong relations and management partnering skills; proven ability to lead stakeholders across cultures and functions to drive and deliver results
  • Clear and crisp communication skills; strong and solid written and verbal communications skills a must
  • Strong leadership qualities to develop and grow talents; ability to lead, motivate and influence others in a global, matrix organization structure
