Job Description


Position Summary This position reports to the R&D Vision Sciences Singapore manager, based in the Essilor R&D centre in Singapore. The other team members are Vision Scientists or Assistant Vision Scientists. The R&D Vision Sciences team’s objective is mainly to improve myopia control lenses for children by understanding the mechanisms of ametropia development. Within this context, the role of the Vision Scientist is to conceive and conduct experiments aiming to better understand the interaction between ophthalmic lenses and the human visual system, either internally or externally with academic research partners.

Scope of Business/ Function - Key Areas of Expertise

  • Design and set up experiments on the interaction between the human visual system and ophthalmic lenses
  • Analyze the outcomes of those experiments
  • Protect key concepts through patents
  • Communicate internally and externally the conclusions of the above experiments
  • Animate functionally multidisciplinary research teams
  • Work with other R&D teams in France, China and USA
  • Set up collaborative research work with local and foreign universities
  • Propose new research directions and convince the organization of their relevance

Key Responsibilities - Key Activities & Deliverables Experimentation & idea generation
  • Generate new ideas and ways to better understand myopia & myopia control in children
  • Design and implement experiments to validate those ideas
  • Analysis and reporting of the results
  • Protection of key concepts through patents
  • Functional supervision of assistant vision scientists for those experiments
Scientific communication
  • Drafting of scientific article for publication in international peer reviewed journals
  • Presentation of results at international scientific congresses (conferences or posters)
Collaborative Research
  • Interact with Essilor R&D teams from different countries
  • Functional management of research teams locally and abroad
  • Interact with academic partners
  • Overseas travel to oversee collaborations
Key Requirements
  • Operated as researcher/post-doc in one or more of the following BUs: R&D, Healthcare
  • Working experience overseas will be an advantage.
  • PhD in Vision Sciences or equivalent
Required competencies for the job:
  • Optometric background/understanding
  • Myopia research
  • Data analysis & Statistics
  • Computer programming (e.g., R, Matlab)
  • GCP
  • Good publication track record
Additional competencies considered as a plus:
  • Intellectual property (basics)
  • Advanced optics
  • Ocular biometrics
Pre-requisites
  • Team player
  • Organization ability, time management, planning skills
  • Excellent communication skills, oral (public speaking) and written expression
  • Willing to take initiatives, quick learner
  • Fully autonomous
