Responsibilities

• Partner strongly with stakeholders to provide practical, insightful and timely legal and regulatory advice on a wide variety of matters relating to the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s private banking and consumer banking business, with a focus on the following portfolios:

• Financing business of the private banking and consumer banking, including drafting, negotiation and review of related loan and security documentation and liaising with external counsel where necessary. Coverage includes insurance premium financing, investment financing and financing of properties/real estate.
• Matters pertinent to the private banking business, including clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs, product offerings, new business initiatives, client complaints / litigation and legal or regulatory developments. This includes providing legal and regulatory support to overseas locations with a private banking presence such as Hong Kong, Dubai, London and Thailand.
• The private trust business under DBS Trustee Limited
• Drafting, reviewing and updating standard client documentation.
• Act as the independent guardian to safeguard the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s legal and regulatory interest with a sound risk management and control mindset.
• Anticipate, evaluate and resolve legal and regulatory issues (including disputes, complaints, regulatory breaches) in a timely and practical matter.
• Providing legal support and advice on how to manage and address litigation and engage external counsel, where necessary.
• Develop, implement, improve and review business and operational processes and occasionally provide training for our business partners.
• Maintain proactive regulatory relationships with financial regulators. Where necessary, also manage and develop productive and efficient relationships with external counsel.

Requirements

• At least 5-7 years relevant experience in legal practice or in a legal function in a financial institution, financing role or trust role.
• Experience in financing transactions and/or trust business would be an advantage.
• This position requires a motivated team player with internal stakeholders focus and responsiveness. Good communication skills are essential.
• Candidate will be expected to be an independent and proactive self-starter.
• Candidate should have an attitude and mindset that embraces challenges and a desire to make a difference.
• Candidate must be willing to learn commercial and operational aspects of the internal stakeholder\xe2\x80\x99s business, and be able to tailor sound and practical advice.
