Job Description


SPDA-MASF is responsible for the origination and execution of financings for Mergers & Acquisitions and Sponsor Finance (MASF) transactions as well as financial advisory services consistent with the objectives of MASF and the SMBC group. As such, SPDA-MASF also seeks to utilise the specialised expertise to enhance customer revenues, increase number of customers, and increase product penetration covering team in Asia Ex-Japan operates out of Singapore, Hong Kong, India and Australia (MASF Geography).

Candidate will be expected to:

  • Undertake detailed credit and financial analysis of MASF transactions. This will include creation and/or review of detailed financial modeling and sensitivity analysis and supporting the preparation and/or review of credit submissions jointly with other team members.
  • SPDA-MASF is responsible for the origination and execution of financings for Mergers & Acquisitions and Sponsor Finance (MASF) transactions as well as financial advisory services consistent with the objectives of MASF and the SMBC group. As such, SPDA-MASF also seeks to utilise the specialised expertise to enhance customer revenues, increase number of customers, and increase product penetration covering team in Asia Ex-Japan operates out of Singapore, Hong Kong, India and Australia (MASF Geography).
Candidate will be expected to: * Undertake detailed credit and financial analysis of MASF transactions. This will include creation and/or review of detailed financial modeling and sensitivity analysis and supporting the preparation and/or review of credit submissions jointly with other team members.
  • Support marketing activities of senior team members by way of preparation of pitch documentation and performing industry and client research both for debt and advisory related transactions.
  • Ongoing support for the broader MASF business in relation to annual budget planning and monthly tracking against budget, expense management, and assisting the Credit & Business Support Group with coordination for Compliance and Security matters within MASF.
  • Manage ad hoc projects in relation to audit preparation, process preparation, process improvement, and other internal initiatives including, but not limited to, the Unitranche JV Program and new investment and private debt initiatives .
  • Coordinate with relevant departments including Tokyo Head Office in risk analysis and setting of rules related to new business development.
  • Be involved in client interaction and participate in client meeting, in particular for Japanese corporate clients, to explain historical and current market dynamics etc. within the MASF Geography in Japanese language. Also, to cooperate closely with relevant departments including Tokyo Head Office and regional department covering Japanese corporate client communicating in Japanese language. The position requires fluency in Japanese language.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enhancing reputation of the bank by supporting the origination and execution of transactions and introducing new clients to the bank.
  • Prepare proposals and other submissions to clients.
  • Prepare and/or supervise credit applications for new transactions, including technical, financial and financing structure element.
  • Develop strategies to enhance revenues through new product development and support for SMBC\'s global product.
  • Building and maintaining customer relationships, as well as expansion of business opportunities. Supporting senior managers on new business opportunities through analysis and review of financial information.
  • Comply with all regulatory and internal policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines Initiate wider initiatives internally and externally not limited to specific role.
  • Provide thought leadership in preparing of team marketing materials, pitch-books and reports, to ensure successful promotion of the team\'s activities both internally and externally.
  • Pro-actively suggest improvements, initiatives and new products to enhance output and value-add of SPDA-MASF.
  • Work with internal colleagues in the drafting and reviewing of documentation (mandate and execution documents) in cooperation with relevant internal teams.
  • Ensure timely reporting of fees, deal pipelines, expense and any other required reporting.
  • Take proactive action in relation to annual budget planning and monthly tracking against budget, expense management, and assisting the Credit & Business Support Group with coordination for Compliance and Security matters within MASF.
  • Be driving force on projects mandated by MASF Group Head or SPDA Management.
  • Attend internal meetings to gain and share information.
  • Assist on department\'s administrative matters or any other matters instructed by MASF Group Head or SPDA Management.
Requirements:
  • Have experience at least 5-7 years of relevant experience in banks/Financial Institutions is essential.
  • Proficiency in Japanese is advantageous as this role needs to negotiate and make presentations to Japanese corporate clients whose main language is Japanese.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be fluent in written and spoken in English.
  • Be able to prepare periodic report in Excel / Word / PowerPoint format.
  • University graduate with strong academic background
  • Deep financial market experience and demonstrated financial/risk analysis, and marketing skills
  • Ability to draft or guide the drafting of internal discussion/credit papers, marketing pitches, etc.
  • Astute and possess a keen eye for detail, good credit sense and critical thinking/analytical skills.
  • Articulate with strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A team player but also independent and self-motivated and resourceful.
  • Good organisation skills and ability to prioritise, manage and meet expectations/deadlines with strong work ethics, integrity and commitment.
