Wealth and Personal Banking (WPB) is our global business combining Retail Banking and Wealth Management and Global Private Banking, to become one of the world\xe2\x80\x99s most successful and geographically diverse retail banking businesses, with over 38 million customers. We provide products and services such as bank accounts, credit cards, personal loans, installment lending, mortgages and savings accounts, as well as asset management, insurance, wealth management and private banking that best suit our customers\xe2\x80\x99 needs.

Our unsecured lending portfolio is a key growth area for WPB, with plans to significantly grow our credit card, loan and installment lending businesses from current balances of c$44b and revenue level of c$4b p.a. A key part of this ambition is supported by our portfolio management activities.

We are seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as WPB Head of Business Management and Strategic Growth Initiatives.

Role Purpose

The WPB Head of Business Management and Strategic Growth Initiatives is a key member of the WPB Singapore management team, reporting to the Head of WPB Singapore.

The candidate is accountable for end-to-end design and execution of WPB Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s strategic growth plan, from inception, goal setting and strategic vision, through to creation and execution of plans to achieve the stated outcomes, and performance tracking and management aligned to committed revenue, cost and balance sheet metrics. This includes all areas of the WPB Singapore franchise, including Retail Banking, Wealth Management, Private Banking, Insurance and Asset Management.

The candidate is accountable for setting and communicating the WPB Singapore vision and priorities, through a holistic communication and engagement plan, covering WPB Singapore staff, functional, regional and Group stakeholders, ensuring a crystal-clear common purpose and objectives for the franchise. The candidate will also be accountable to provide analysis and insights on ongoing business performance and supporting the development, planning and execution of initiatives and activities to achieve our stated business priorities.

Achieving such an outcome requires the role holder to bring a strategic and transformative mind set to the job, while maintaining focus on operational continuity and risk management. The job holder will need to work closely with other teams in the region and group to ensure a consistent and collaborative approach.

The candidate will drive people management to identify what really matters to our people in WPB Singapore and how it can be aligned with the organisation purpose through the ways of working and achieved through mentorship systems.

Primary Responsibilities:

Impact on the Business

  • Broad responsibility as part of the Senior Management team in determining the strategic direction and change imperatives of WPB Singapore.
  • Drive achievement of strategic and business goals through robust analysis of sales and business performance, using internal and external information sources
  • Ensure effective mobilization, resourcing, governance and delivery of execution strategy and implementation plans across all areas of the business.
  • Ensure transformation initiatives are fully embedded, creating sustainable change.
  • Identify opportunities to drive efficiency gains and cost reduction across WPB Singapore, resulting in sustainable saves and achievement of cost targets (e.g., org design, offshoring, etc.) across the whole WPB business (including Private Bank, Asset Management, and Insurance).
  • Conduct regular Business Reviews with key stakeholders for tracking strategic objectives, resolution of roadblocks, develop business cases, financial analysis, and executive presentations to support strategic objectives and lead in conducting strategic offsites for senior management, Board Strategy Planning and Management visits.
  • Drive both BAU and cyclical activities, such as budgeting, event management (e.g., both virtual and physical townhalls) and internal communications as well as non-BAU activities/special projects.
  • Ensure an operating environment across all the bank\xe2\x80\x99s functions that is aligned or is being changed to facilitate the bank\xe2\x80\x99s strategic agenda.
  • Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Team leadership and management of direct reports, including effective performance management, talent management and succession planning.
Customer & Stakeholder management
  • Ensures that the needs of stakeholders in the Group, or external stakeholders such as regulators, are understood and satisfied efficiently and effectively.
  • Support the Head of WPB in developing and refining WPB strategic and tactical initiatives to achieve FRP targets and long-term objectives.
  • Partner with Distribution/Channels to continuously improve, driving wealth penetration and RM productivity through various initiatives and developments.
  • Investigate and seek remedies for discrete issues which may be adversely affecting business unit performance.
Leadership & Teamwork
  • Ensures a consistent management approach is applied within and across teams including with objective setting, performance management, career development and remuneration.
  • Manages and leads a cohesive team that is aligned to the business areas they support and works collaboratively with colleagues in regional and global teams.
  • Exercises tight cost controls across the business (direct and indirect cost), on both projects related (CTB) costs and BAU costs.
  • Ensuring operational effectiveness & control
Requirements

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of Wealth and Personal Banking business, particularly in Asia (min. 10 years of experience with a major global bank or a top tier management consulting firm)
  • Graduate degree from a top tier university, master\xe2\x80\x99s degree a plus
  • Proven experience as a senior manager in banking
  • Deep insights into industry and key geographical wealth markets as well as customer trends and competition
  • Knowledge of change management techniques and pitfalls
  • Experience in executing complex projects and initiatives from start to finish.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic leader, willing to champion the unpopular if right for the business; and the ability to persuade and motivate individuals to support a cross team agenda.
