We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as Senior Manager Strategy and Growth Initiatives.

Role Purpose

This role is a senior member of the South Asia Chief of Staff team, leading a small but focused team driving the design of strategic initiatives across the Region and their execution roadmaps, as well as supporting the markets and/or products with market reviews and deep-dives. The role holder will also lead dedicated task-forces to resolve immediate business problems either regionally or in different key markets. In addition, the role holder will drive or coordinate the execution of priority initiatives for the Region, such as partnerships, collaboration, strategic actions, and others. The role holder reports to the Chief of Staff, South Asia, and works closely with the South Asia WPB Market Heads, the global Strategy teams and the wider community of global Segment and Product teams

Impact on the Business

Strategy and Strategic Projects

  • Support the Chief of Staff and Head of WPB South Asia to formulate the strategic vision and priorities for WPB South Asia, in collaboration with WPB strategy and ASP and Group strategy
  • Support the Chief of Staff and Head of WPB South Asia to conduct regular Market reviews, in conjunction with Group Strategy and Market Heads
  • Support the Chief of Staff and Head of WPB South Asia to lead strategic formulation projects for WPB South Asia, and conduct strategic reviews across Products/Segments, regionally or supporting local markets, setting the direction by tracking and identifying market trends and competitive developments
  • Lead design and implementation of special projects in the Region or Markets, including forming or coordinating ad-hoc timebound task-forces to solve immediate business problems
  • Lead discussion and regional implementation of Group projects
  • In collaboration with the Governance and Business Management teams within the CoS construct, drive, manage and oversee the strategy implementation in WPB South Asia markets along with WPB Market Heads ensuring that the strategic objectives are met.
  • Support group strategy for M&A deals, identifying and driving relevant South Asia opportunities to conclusion: coordinate M&A projects involving South Asia, in conjunction with Group M&A and affected markets where applicable
  • Support administrative processes where needed e.g. AdCo or GSM for M&A projects
  • Fulfil ad-hoc individual strategic analysis/requests, as a contribution to larger projects
Benchmarking and Competitive Analysis
  • Prepare regular competitor benchmarking across the Region, including for several key Markets, Segments and Products, to inform management decision-making
  • Prepare or coordinate the preparation of strategy related content for ASP Forums, Investors, Board, senior management meetings, often in coordination with other internal teams
Collaboration and partnerships
  • Drive the collaboration agenda within WPB as well as with other LOB\xe2\x80\x99s, across the Region and in coordination with the Markets and the Group
  • Act as a first point of contact between markets and MSS, GB and CMB for multi-country solutions or escalations
  • Drive solutions and best practices across Proposition (EBS), Acquisition (EBS) and Product and Pricing (MSS)
  • Set up and manage relevant governance to monitor progress and take corrective actions when needed to meet agreed plans
  • Support the deployment of a regional cross-border strategy across origination, activation and customer life cycle management, in close partnership with the Markets and the Group teams; support markets with best practices, idea generation and strategies; facilitate regional engagement where necessary, and participate in projects to facilitate cross-border flows eg a regional international incentives framework, partnering with other teams
  • In close partnership with the Markets and the Group Partnerships team, maintain an updated vision of the market landscape, competitive pressure, and partnership opportunities
  • Oversee a regional partnerships plan in conjunction with Group partnerships
  • Coordinate partnerships strategy across markets to ensure scalability, idea sharing and negotiating power

  • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, the Group Compliance Policy.

Role Context
  • This role is part of the SA Chief of Staff team. Close collaboration with other sub-teams inside the team is paramount for role success
  • The job holder will be based in Singapore with direct report to South Asia Chief of Staff, but key stakeholders will be in multiple markets across Asia or in the UK, so the role holder needs to be able to span the geographies and build a cohesive team
  • Countries globally and in ASP have different operating environments, regulatory requirements and are at various stages in terms of customer and propositional sophistication. Tailored strategies are required to penetrate into the different target segments while maximizing profitability
Management of Risk

The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.

The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.

This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with entity management and/or the appropriate department.

Observation of Internal Controls

The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term \xe2\x80\x98compliance\xe2\x80\x99 embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators.

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have
  • A strong sense of team spirit and collaboration
  • Experience in strategy formulation and designing strategy execution roadmaps
  • Experience in driving and tracking strategic plan execution at senior level of the bank or an equivalent organization
  • market experience in relevant business lines ie consumer banking, wealth, private banking is preferred
  • Outstanding track record of stakeholder management, leadership and development of people.
  • Evidence of strong results orientation and performance management success.
  • Experience in both developing and developed markets.
  • Proven track record in working in multi-function projects.
  • Experience in stakeholder management at senior level across the HSBC Group or a comparable organization
  • Impeccable track record of people management
  • Significant interpersonal skills and ability to navigate and build relationships across different sets of stakeholders with a high amplitude in seniority levels
  • Digital experience and capabilities will be valued
