Role Summary
Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) is expanding its regulatory remit to include a regulatory and strategic change agent in the first line, to collaborate with the business as well as the second and third lines within the firm.
The Asia Pacific region (ex-India) for Northern Trust Asset Management currently covers legal entities in Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan and Australia along with commercial activities undertaken in several other markets within the region.
As the business continues to evolve and grow we are looking for Asia Pacific Regulatory Change Manager to:

  • Coordinate, project manage and assist implementing regional and global regulatory changes within the first line whilst also collaborating with second and third lines.
  • Project manage the implementation of regional and global initiatives covering the whole lifecycle of projects from initial planning, scope, governance through to testing and implementation and after completion review.

Whilst the second line is primarily responsible for identifying regulatory changes, this role does require an understanding of new and changes to existing regulations that impact Northern Trust and our related entities. Together with broader strategic initiatives the role will be instrumental in working with the business to implement these changes either regionally or globally in conjunction with the broader Regulatory Change team.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative partner with the ability to manage multiple projects with high visibility. This individual will have exceptional technical, communication, and problem solving skills. The role requires both a high degree of asset and investment management acumen as well as a sense of urgency and deep analytical analysis.
What you will do
  • Oversight of the Asia Pacific regulatory change agenda (in conjunction with the Compliance team) with a focus on operational readiness and traceability to minimise regulatory risk and enable effective handover to the BAU teams
  • Delivery of global regulatory changes as required with a focus on operational readiness and traceability to minimise regulatory risk and enable effective handover to the BAU teams
  • Representation of the business at relevant internal and external regulatory forums/councils/committees etc. to discuss and review impacts of regulations on functional areas within the First line.
  • Understanding of the regional and global strategic initiative pipeline and working closely with senior management on the delivery of these programs
  • Ensures all stakeholders are identified and included in agreeing the scope of program activities, understanding the schedule, key milestones, risks, issues while providing regular status updates
  • Assists in negotiating for resources owned by other departments in order ensure the program can be completed
  • Directs the identification of risks which impact program delivery (including those outside established programs of work) and ensures mitigation strategies are developed and executed when necessary
  • Coordinates with BAU/functional teams (Investments, Product, Investment Ops etc) to ensure the project successfully manages, delivers and implements changes into BAU processes
  • Production of the relevant metrics and reporting on the effectiveness of the regulatory environment in NTAM, associated Boards, legal entities etc i.e. related to regulatory change and regulatory oversight activities.

About You
  • Proven relevant experience with regulatory change, managing projects or leading large initiatives within a large, global organisation, preferably Financial services
  • Demonstrated leadership in regulatory evaluation, execution and compliance at a global asset management firm
  • Program/Project Management Skills
  • Knowledge of the Asset Management industry
  • Process improvement implementation, with problem-solving and business analysis skills
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders
  • Strong communicator with the ability to adjust communication style to audience need e.g. from BAU teams to Senior Management and C-Suite.
  • Proven influencing and persuasion skills to successfully implement change, and influence decision making with key stakeholders in a diverse and matrix operating environment
  • Proven relationship building and management skills
  • Attention to detail, and commitment to quality
  • Strong planning and organisational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Visio, Word, Excel, PPT, etc.)
  • Tertiary degree
