At HSBC Private Bank, we put our clients at the centre of everything we do. We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Asia Business Architecture Lead, GPB&W. Role Purpose The Lead Business Architect for GPB&W Asia will be responsible for defining the target operating model and business capabilities (incl. journeys and processes) required to fulfil GPB&W Asia's strategy (Asia Wealth and WMT), and to design solutions (in conjunction with tech architecture) for the optimal system platforms to meet those business capabilities. The role holder will also be responsible for running the GPB&W Asia Design Authority which provides design/architecture governance across all SVS’ in the region to ensure that design decisions are effective and consistent with global design principles, and that solutions are re-usable. Given Asia's business model, the role holder will also be the lead BA for the priority domain of Capital Markets and Trading. The role holder will act as trusted advisor to GPB&W Asia COO and other senior business stakeholders in the region and build/lead a small team of high-quality business architects in the region. Principal Accountabilities Key activities and decision making areas

  • Engages with business and delivery partners to build a pipeline of high value business architecture consulting engagements
  • Captures target business models (goals, products, target customer groups etc), provides traceability through to operating model design and assesses impact of change against the models so that planned change supports enduring business capability and competitive advantage
  • Develops Target Operating Model (TOM) designs that describe how the business will be structured to deliver the target business model comprising organisation, process and technology
  • Analyses current state operating models against target model to identify gaps and opportunities to support an effective transition towards the target state
  • Integrates operating model work with IT strategy / architecture conducted by SWD and ITO; process work conducted by Process Consultants, Service Delivery and the Business; focusing on alignment and new business capabilities
  • Assesses impact of change against TBM / TOM and engages with Business Partners, Senior Portfolio Managers and Programme Managers to create an optimal change portfolio that supports a pragmatic and optimal evolution to the target state, ensuring alignment to business goals and minimising gaps and overlaps between programmes
  • Participates in organisational design (structure, teams, jobs) with the business and with HR. Support organisation sizing and capacity planning work.
  • Ensures business architecture is communicated and well-understood so that change activity is informed by target business and operating models
  • Supports Business Consultants and Analysts in change initiation activities to ensure effective implementation of TBMs and TOMs
  • Influence and collaborate with stakeholders and business partners, building strong relationships to ensure consensus and influence change outcomes. Fosters open and honest communication which anticipates stakeholder expectations
  • Support Business Consultants, Analysts and delivery partners on solution design providing advice on solution options and ensuring alignment to operating model
  • Provides direction to senior business architects and analysts in delivery of business architecture services
Operational Performance
  • Applies commercial acumen and strategic awareness in developing effective target business models and assessing change impacts
  • Ensures that change impacts are communicated and understood by appropriate change stakeholders and that risks, issues are raised to appropriate governance bodies
  • Identifies opportunities to improve delivery and mitigate operational risk
  • Ensure business architects are engaged on activities that maximise value to business partners
  • Provides direction to Business and Process consultants with system related functional and organisational expertise
Capability and People Development
  • Identifies the resource requirements of Business Architecture engagements, requesting the appropriate resource through skill set and/or experience
  • Acts as a role model to foster a collaborative team environment across regions, markets and inclusive of delivery partners to support effective TOM implementations
  • Ensures Business Architecture frameworks (methods, tools, roles, measures) are followed thus driving a common high performance approach across Private Banking
  • Captures key learnings and feeds these back into Business Architecture methodologies and best practice
  • Drive a culture to improve and drive efficiencies and performance
  • Collaborate with and influence Group wide stakeholders to share expertise and maintain commonality and consistency and quality of Business Architecture outcomes
  • Lead a positive work environment and promote teamwork to drive Private Banking Business Architecture engagement
  • Participate in appraisal / calibration processes if and when necessary
Major Challenges
  • The senior business architect is responsible for providing business architecture services in support of one or more business areas within Global Private Banking or region; supporting the GPB&W Head Business Architecture and GPB&W Asia COO in developing operating models and the supporting change portfolio for Asia.
  • Operate at a senior level. influencing business and delivery partners with across regions and organisation units to achieve buy-in on effective operating model development and implementation
  • Establishing strong relationships with business, SVS, delivery and tech leads, demonstrating the value of business architecture in developing an effective and efficient global business to build and maintain a pipeline of high value consulting engagements.
  • Challenge the conventional thinking of the group and establish a design based on structured models, business components and future demand rather than legacy organisational structures
  • The identification and alignment of ongoing change activities in process, IT architecture and organisation to business models
Role Context Critical role in fulfilling GPB&W Asia's ambitious strategy across Asia Wealth and WMT in particular Management of Risk The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
Also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department. Observation of Internal Controls The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators. The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators. Requirements
Knowledge and Experience / Qualifications Knowledge
  • Strong private banking and wealth management business, product and technical knowledge
  • A strong knowledge of Target Business and Operating Models and transformation business case
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture modelling
  • Overall financial services industry knowledge with specific functional expertise
  • Excellent understanding of Architecture Frameworks and best practice techniques
  • A thorough understanding of the purpose, culture and fundamentals of Business Architecture
Experience
  • Diverse experience and a variety of skills related to supporting large and complex change including people, process and technology development
  • Experience of working in business, data, process, organisation architecture and design
  • Proven ability to work with senior stakeholders and business sponsors
  • Evidence of confidently operating at an Executive level
  • Proven ability to work across regions whilst maintaining a global perspective
  • Demonstration of strong commercial awareness in developing architectures
    • Evidence of ability to make key strategic decisions
  • Proven ability to build and lead high quality teams
