The Role: The Associate Editorial Director will help develop and drive the coverage across our existing chemicals price assessments as well as oversee the introduction of new markets, reflecting the ambitious growth targets identified for this exciting sector.
Based in Singapore, the Associate Editorial Director position leads team coverage and day-to-day operations for the region and contributes to the global strategy of the Chemicals group. S/he drives benchmark development and adoption; leads engagement with industry stakeholders; responds to changing market dynamics and drives opportunities for growth and operational effectiveness at the regional level.
The candidate will relish the challenge that building a rapidly growing business brings and will:

  • Act as a subject matter expert both internally and externally
  • Oversee the development and evolution of pricing methodologies in the region
  • Drive adoption of Platts benchmarks; Engage industry leaders to continuously understand market and trends and identify emerging opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with other regional leads and functions
  • Contribute to group strategy; support execution of strategic initiatives
  • Monitor team\'s news and market reporting activities, ensuring timely adherence to deadlines and operational/regulatory requirements
  • Support where necessary in market coverage and the production of in-depth analysis
  • Drive continuous improvement in processes
  • Manage team performance;
  • Recruit, train and develop talent
  • Delegate for the global director when necessary
The Impact: The Regional Director (Assoc) will have:
  • The ability to defend and strengthen Platts reputation in respect of existing benchmarks and to build a reputation and a name for Platts within new geographical areas and emerging chemicals markets
  • Excellent leadership skills and advanced experience of the commodity markets and of market reporting and publishing
  • Expertise in developing and applying methodologies and must be able to serve externally as a subject matter expert.
The Career Opportunity: This is an integral role in a challenging environment with the Regional Director (Assoc) expected to work well in collaboration with senior leaders as well as showing strong individual leadership and assuming considerable responsibility for the delivery of essential market pricing and coverage.

The Team / The Business: The APAC Chemicals team is responsible for the generation of pricing, analysis and news covering the chemicals markets in Asia-Pacific region. The chemicals group is fast growing and the region presents significant opportunity for revenue growth. The role will also assist the Global Director in developing and delivering the vision for Platts Chemicals sector and will work closely with relevant units across the organisation such as Product, Marketing, Sales and Conferences.

Your Skills:
  • In-depth understanding of Platts processes and methodologies
  • At least five years reporting/writing/analytical or editorial management experience
  • Proven strong leadership skills which utilize influence and promotes team collaboration, development and personal accountability
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally
  • Understanding of internal stakeholders and ability to effectively collaborate across boundaries
  • Strong numeracy skills including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships and to understand the basic principles of algebra and statistics as well as a strong ability to apply basic math functions in Excel. Experience in quantitative analysis an advantage
  • Solid understanding of economics principles and of risk management principles
  • Skilled at identifying improvements and efficiencies and implementing processes that continually promote productivity and quality improvements
  • Strong critical thinking skills and expert at problem/conflict resolution
  • Deep knowledge of the global commodity markets - physical, exchange-traded and over-the-counter
  • Energy, tenacity and ambition to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of chemicals markets preferred
  • BA degree in a relevant area preferred
  • Multi-lingual skills an advantage
