Job Description


You will be part of the team that contributes to SFA\xe2\x80\x99s mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food through the direct performance of specific veterinary tasks and through the auditing of other animal and public health activities.

You will play an essential role in applying risk analysis in animal health and food
hygiene components and implementing risk-based recommendations for regulatory systems.

- Carry out investigations at local food businesses for animal disease outbreaks

and assist with investigations for foodborne outbreaks;
- Conduct risk analysis, develop policies and regulatory requirements, and
support legislative reviews for food animal and aquaculture production, e.g.
vaccination, biosecurity, assessing countries\xe2\x80\x99 animal health and veterinary
systems, and the safety of food derived from animals
- Drive initiatives to improve the local food and feed industry\xe2\x80\x99s practices, through
engagement, training and regulations e.g. encourage good farming practices to
prevent diseases, control food and feed safety hazards
- Manage SFA\xe2\x80\x99s inspection and sampling programmes of food animals in local
farms and slaughterhouses
- Provide technical expertise on veterinary and animal health matters within the
government e.g. provide veterinary inputs to support contingency plans, before
licensing a local or accrediting an overseas food farm/slaughterhouse or the
import of food derived from animals
- Provide health certification to international trading partners attesting that
exported products meet both animal health and food safety standards

Additional responsibilities:
There are opportunities to represent SFA in ASEAN and international forums
related to the following areas:
a. Animal health and disease [including aquaculture];
b. Epidemiology and risk assessment;
c. Surveillance and risk management measures;
d. One Health and zoonosis;
e. Anti-microbial resistance; and
f. Foodborne outbreak investigations.

The above will involve formulation of Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s position, preparation of meeting materials, providing scientific advice and training

Qualifications
- Degree in veterinary science or veterinary medicine that are acceptable for
obtaining a veterinary licence in Singapore

Other requirements
- Possess strong ownership and technical skills to resolve challenges
- Team player, good interpersonal and communication skills
- Meticulous and able to work independently
- Highly self-motivated, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Able to work in a tight deadline to deliver results
