Job Description


Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), commonly known as Codex, is the international food standard-setting body established by the United Nation\xe2\x80\x99s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). International food standards set by Codex are recognized as reference standards for international trade under the World Trade Organization\xe2\x80\x99s Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement).

The National Codex Office (NCO) is a set-up within SFA to strengthen Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s participation in Codex activities, formulate national positions and coordinate issues relating to food safety standards. The NCO aims to safeguard and advance national interests in international food safety and supply issues to position Singapore as a thought-leader in Codex, and leverages on the expertise and experience of academia and industry to ensure standards are relevant to our local context. It provides secretariat support for the National Codex Committee (NCC), which roles are to advise on Codex matters based on science and Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s interests, and matters related to development and adoption of international standards in Singapore.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to:

  • Support Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s participation in Codex meetings and related activities in order to profile Singapore as an active thought-leader in Codex work and to advance Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s interests.
  • Prepare and propose Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s national positions on Codex matters. This can involve mapping out of existing policy positions, facilitating internal and external stakeholder consultations, and coordinating agency-wide perspectives.
  • Prepare, manage and distribute information relating to Codex both internally within SFA (e.g. for the lead officers of various Codex Committees, developing internal newsletters) and externally, (e.g. SFA website on Codex activities, promotion of Codex activities in Singapore).
  • Manage the day-to-day duties of the NCO, including acting as point of contact between Codex and Singapore, and providing secretariat support for the NCC.
Requirements
  • Degree from a recognised university in any discipline.
  • Prior background or experience in strategic planning, international relations, food safety control, public health, food safety standard setting, food technology, chemistry, microbiology, veterinary medicine, etc. will be an advantage.
  • Possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills, comfortable with complexity and iterative approach.
  • Self-motivated, good project management and organisational skills and proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong writing and effective interpersonal and communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 willing to facilitate stakeholder collaboration and confident in interacting with a wide range of senior leaders and professionals.
Must be able to travel frequently.
