Your day to day
voco Orchard Singapore is looking for a pleasant Assistant Engineer to join its team! As Assistant Engineer, you’ll ensure all aspects of hotel maintenance and management are kept to the very best standards and in line with all relevant health and safety legislature and procedures. You’ll also keep an organised and secure maintenance shop.
People
Manage everyday activities, plan and assign work ensuring you always have the right staffing numbers
Communicate with all hotel department heads to stay informed of maintenance needs and ensure timely responses to requests
Develop your team and improve their performance through coaching and feedback, and create performance and development goals for colleagues - recognise good performance
Train your team to make sure they deliver with compliance and to the standards we expect and have the tools they need to work efficiently
Recommend or initiate any HR elated actions where needed
Financial
Assist in managing departmental labor and expenses. Provide input into the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget.
Control expenses and minimize waste within all areas of engineering.
Identify areas of improvement to ensure energy efficiency across the entire hotel
Guest Experience
Understand and respond to customers’ needs and ensure a high level of guest satisfaction
Carry out a preventive maintenance programme to ensure the hotel is maintained and in service for guests (example: lighting, refrigeration, heating, air-conditioning, water treatment systems, and pools)
Responsible Business
Be involved and to lead the in-house maintenance team in all daily facilities maintenance matters of the overall Hotel Facility including guest rooms, all M&E Applications, HVAC/AHU systems, Fire protection systems, emergency power systems and related equipment
Proactive in monitoring requisite maintenance and building services that must be undertaken as well as to ensure necessary preventive and corrective maintenance works are adhered to
Developing, implementing and maintaining preventive maintenance and energy conservation programs for guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house, various building systems and thereby ensuring compliance to both local and international standards
Facilitate and coordinate maintenance team in all daily facilities maintenance issues and meet contractual obligations.
Dealing matters with contractors (in-house and external), coordinate the project in order to keep the project in a state of good and operational condition and in compliance of all relevant legislation, standards and requirements governing the maintenance and management of Hotel
Prioritize, plan and assign daily work duties to engineering staffs
Ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, team members and hotel assets in compliance with policies and procedures and regulatory requirements
Maintain good working relations with outside contacts
Serve as part of the Company Emergency Response Team and serves as Site Incident Commander in emergency situations.
Be the first point of contact for any emergency situations and coordinate the response in accordance with the hotel Emergency Response Plan.
Be aware of duty of care and adhere to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures
Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures and operate equipment safely and sensibly.
Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify supervisors of potential dangers.
Log security incidents and accidents in accordance with hotel requirements.
Maintain a focus and commitment to operating a “green” hotel
Perform other duties as assigned.
What we need from you
Advanced vocational training plus two years of experience in general building maintenance or construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional certification and licence if required by law
Hotel experience preferred.
Must be able to speak local language(s)
