The Talent Development and Programming (TDP) unit plays a major role in CFA’s mission to integrate the arts into every aspect of university life including facilitating opportunities for arts-based learning in a range of faculties while concurrently formalising programmes for arts training and expanding thinking through the processes of conceptualisation and creation of artistic works. It provides opportunities for arts appreciation, champions creative possibilities and inspires strong communities in and around NUS.
The Assistant Manager, Talent Development and Programming whose specific portfolio is in Outreach and Community Partnerships is tasked with strategically strengthening relationships between CFA and its CFA Groups with communities within and beyond NUS by deepening their engagement in and through the arts.
The incumbent will oversee the development of sustainable community engagement programmes, including the Volunteers Programme and alumni engagement programmes, such as the CFA Alumni Chapter and the Alumni Associates Programme.
The incumbent will lead in the planning of the Here! Arts Carnival, CFA’s annual event to mark the return to campus and to raise awareness and interest in participating in the arts. They will play a supporting role in the Programming team to execute shows for NUS Arts Festival and ExxonMobil Campus Concerts series as well as manage the volunteer programmes associated with these events.
As part of Talent Development & Programming, they will manage two CFA arts groups, namely NUS Dance Synergy and NUS Guitar Ensemble, with a view to expanding their artistic growth while supervising day-to-day areas of recruitment and retention, training, rehearsals, productions and external engagements. With the current direction from NUS CFA towards greater broad-based learning, they will guide the students to deepen critical thinking skills through conferences, workshops and masterclasses and to contribute to a digital content platforms within NUS.
As part of the drive for administrative efficiency, the incumbent will endeavor to maintain and improve management of processes of procurement, contracting and database systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Senior Manager and Senior Associate Director, Talent Development, the responsibilities of the Assistant Manager, Talent Development/ Programming Division are as follows:
To actively contribute to the development of artistic discourse in CFA and encourage the integration of the arts into other disciplines of study by working with other NUS departments, engaging with arts professionals, and nurturing students to create programmes, initiatives, forums, workshops and masterclasses and digital learning content.
To lead in the planning and execution of events within the arts calendar of NUS Centre For the Arts, in particular the Here! Arts Carnival and the Tan Ean Kiam Arts Awards and to support the execution of shows for NUS Arts Festival and ExxonMobil Campus Concerts series.
To lead in student development programmes that nurtures interest in arts management such as the Volunteer, CFA Arts Ambassador and internship programmes.
To connect with attendees and supporters as well as members of CFA Groups to strengthen the CFA Chapter of NUS Alumni. This would include planning, implementing and promoting alumni programmes and activities that support CFA’s strategic plans, ensuring accurate alumni database records, working with Marketing Communications to build relationships with a wide range of alumni and educating graduating students about alumni benefits and engaging them in programmes
To manage two CFA Groups namely NUS Dance Synergy and NUS Harmonica
overseeing the day-to-day administration of the groups, including rehearsals, meetings and workshops as well as annual exercises such as recruitment through the Student Life Fair and elections of the executive committee, providing advice and direction for their annual work plans, as well as liaising with the tutors to advance in artistic standards
guiding and coaching in show planning, financial management and production management
identifying and grooming members of these groups with the potential to lead to manage other artistic endeavours in the future.
To identify key strengths of CFA Groups and to guide the members to plan, develop and implement original and appropriate arts programmes to engage and collaborate with community groups where there are social, cultural or environmental issues to be addressed. To efficiently equip students, the incumbent will compile a database of professionals who would be able to provide training and advice to students to effectively engage with the community groups as well as establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations who share common goals of community service through the arts.
To comply with CFA’s administration processes with regards to management of contracts, procurement and the coordination and centralisation of information and databases in student management systems such as Teams, NUSync and nBox.
Requirements
Basic Degree in Humanities, Arts or Social Sciences, Arts Management and/or Education
A minimum of 4 years’ experience in alumni relations and external affairs with demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers and developing volunteer leadership or alumni networks
Strong interest developing youth-driven interdisciplinary work and arts integration
Excellent administrative skills to be able to meet deadlines and deliver work of a high quality as well as a demonstrated commitment to work in a team
High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information
Ability to organize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with close attention to detail and prioritization to meet deadlines
Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
