Roles & Responsibilities The Singapore Shipping Association has job opportunities for diploma/university graduates with 3-6 years of experience in the following role. Assistant Manager (Technical & Technology) The incumbent will play an important role in the Association’s technical and technology engagement as well as its committee activities to elevate the Association’s work and profile as the collective voice of the shipping industry, promoting the interests of its members and enhancing the competitiveness of Singapore as an International Maritime Centre. The role This role calls for an individual who is passionate about shipping technical issues, maritime technology and have an interest in regulatory policies, sustainability as well as the marine environment. The role also requires you to engage and collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to: (i) Amplify the Association’s activities across different platforms such as the website, workshops, webinars and committees; (ii) Execute committees and programmes to engage members and key maritime stakeholders, and (iii) Be comfortable with regulatory policies (international, regional and local) and maintain up-to-date maritime industry technical, technology and sustainabiity information for effective outreach. Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Assists in the preparation of all documents (agendas, Note Verbales, invitation letters, memoranda, list of participants and reports), including preparation of folders for meetings organized by the association;
  • Provides secretarial support to the Executive and Technical Director;
  • Work with internal stakeholders to co-lead the efforts of the SSA Secretariat team to strategise advocacy at the association level, and formulate and drive action plans toward national and international outcomes;
  • Responsible for administering committee activities; such as the Technical & Marine Fuel committees and its corresponding sub-committees. Tasks involve planning and conducting meetings quarterly, performing research on topics important to the industry, engaging experts to share knowledge, and responding to committee members inquiries & follow-ups;
  • Identifies and extracts information from various sources and prepares briefing notes presentation materials, position papers and reports;
  • Co-ordinate/organise Technical & Technology activities such as talks, brainstorming activities, members surveys, training, workshops, and any other activities assigned;
  • Assist to align and drive the Technical & Technology to key stakeholders to ensure sustainability in:
Ø Creating awareness of programmes and schemes Ø Promoting the adoption of digitalisation and decarbonisation initiatives
  • Assist with any other administrative or ad hoc duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Requirements Candidates should preferably have an easy-going and self-driven personality with good written and verbal communication as well as strong interpersonal skills. Having creativity, an inquisitive and an open mind to try new ways will be favourable. The incumbent is expected to be eager and open to being assigned ad-hoc projects from time to time for their professional and personal development. The ideal candidate should possess the following or have a desire to further develop these skills. Operational Effectiveness:
  • Obtained at least 3 – 5 yrs working experience in the maritime industry;
  • An inclination towards technical and technology with an eye on sustainability;
  • Possesses basic knowledge of organizational policies and procedures relating to
the position and applies them consistently in work tasks. In addition, strives to keep job knowledge up-to-date through self-directed study and other means of learning;
  • Demonstrates good knowledge of environmental sustainability and technology subjects (such as digitalisation, decarbonisation, recycling, and marine biology) and applies it in work assignments;
  • Computer literate with practical experience with Windows applications and other office software packages, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI etc.;
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work possibly under time constraints through efficient organization and prioritization;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Managing Documents, Correspondence and Reports:
  • Shows sound grasp of grammar, spelling and structure in the required language.
  • Ability to produce accurate and well-documented records conforming to the required standard.
  • Social media competency is essential and a background in IT/OT, statistics, finance or economy will be an added advantage;
Planning, Organizing and Multi-Tasking:
  • Organizes workload while remaining aware of changing priorities and competing
deadlines.
  • Ability to take decisions as is necessary for the execution of assignments.
