Portfolio Execution Group
The Portfolio Execution Group (PEG) comprises teams involved in a broad range of functional roles including trading, balance sheet management, beta replication and asset rebalancing, and applied quantitative research.

What impact can you make in this role?

We are looking for a Business Manager to support Portfolio Execution Group (PEG). The successful candidate will support PEG in delivering sustainable top quartile performance by supporting the departments strategy development, building new capabilities and products, overseeing governance / controls, technology rollouts as well as general business management activities such as resource and budget planning. Accordingly, he / she will interact with people at all levels across the firm, working closely with teams in Singapore, London, and New York, as well as counterparties and vendors across the globe. The candidate will be part of the larger PEG BMO team and work closely with the Director, PEG and the PEG Management team.

What will you do as an AVP/VP, Business Manager?

Strategy and Business Development

  • Support the Director, PEG to drive strategic business planning, ensuring strategic investment objectives are converted into actionable and measurable activities
  • Lead / support key strategic projects to support multi-year strategy plans
  • Lead / support budgeting and resource planning and in-year management of expenses
  • Work closely with business heads to develop new products, manage deal pipeline and transaction execution and assist with business cases to achieve target value add
Continuous Enhancements & Investment Execution
  • Drive continuous operational improvement with the functional leads to support with building new capabilities and increasing productivity
  • Collaborate with other investment and corporate services departments, to manage inter-dependencies and contribute to operational excellence across the whole enterprise
  • Identify operating model enhancements (e.g., examine existing processes, identify optimization opportunities), operationalize and assess effectiveness
Governance & Risk Management
  • Develop and manage controls (e.g., escalation channels) needed to support risk management, in collaboration with the Risk and Performance Management Department (RPMD)
  • Monitor of recurring activities to ensure strict compliance to risk and compliance policies
  • Produce reporting and analysis for PEG management
  • Resolve issues and potential roadblocks arising from execution, operational, risk and compliance considerations
  • Drive business continuity planning
  • Represent PEG in working groups, corporate management, risk and BCP forums, ensuring PEG feedback and requirements are accurately captured and actively considered, while maintaining oversight on risk and governance
What qualifications or skills should you possess in this role?
  • Degree in Finance, Business or related fields with a minimum of 6-8 years of relevant working experience in the financial services industry
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work at the central interface of multiple functions, balancing the priorities of various teams, and managing the constructive tension between investment department business priorities and central governance and enterprise requirements
  • Strong analytical abilities with an eye for detail. Ability to synthesize clear takeaways from complex information into clear insights and recommendations using both qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Ability to manage execution teams with good grasp of process design, operational problem solving, governance workflows, with an eye for streamlining and efficiency
  • Strong data / analytics capabilities (ideally with some coding experience)
  • Preferred: Financial markets and / or top tier strategy consulting / corporate strategy experience; public markets domain experience to engage meaningfully with investment professionals
