Role Summary:

The Vice President, Business Manager will report into the Singapore Chief Administrative Officer, and is responsible for managing key aspects of Accountability Regimes in Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong and China) on behalf of Northern Trust. The role will have responsibility for assisting the three locations of Northern Trust Corporation to meet its Individual Accountability Regimes (or similar) regulatory obligations.
The location will rely on the role for guidance and support to meet their accountability obligations and responsibilities under the regime. The role is critical to the effectiveness of the regime framework and in raising awareness of conduct risks and promoting accountability regime best practices across the .

The key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Implement various accountability regimes in Asia (Singapore, Hong Kong and China), administer key aspects of these regimes, and develop conduct management information in conjunction with business partners;
  • Facilitate understanding and adherence to individual accountability and conduct regime requirements, including the accountable persons / senior managers discharging their accountabilities effectively through reasonable steps and the evidencing performance of their responsibilities;
  • Seek opportunity for continuous improvement and efficiency in internal processes, including the set of practical tools and templates created for accountable persons / senior managers;
  • Support the co-ordination of and reporting to relevant governance forums;
  • Support the appointment and cessation of accountable persons / senior managers;
  • Proactively monitor the accountability regime regulatory landscape and analyse impacts of new and amended legislation, regulation and APRA guidance
  • Drive compliance with the accountability regime through the timely execution of specific controls;
  • Guide the existing and new senior managers/accountable persons on their obligations under the relevant accountability regimes, escalating matters for decision as appropriate within the relevant jurisdictions;
  • Champion awareness of the conduct framework within relevant jurisdictions;
  • Assist in the development of conduct related training in conjunction with second line of defence;
  • Responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of relevant documentation for relevant accountability regimes;
  • Participate and engage with the immediate leadership team and wider business in support of strategic decision making and the delivery of strategic projects, when capacity permits.
Skills/ Qualifications:

The successful candidate will benefit from having:
  • Experience in a Governance, Audit, Risk Management or Compliance role in either a regulated organization of significant complexity or consulting to like organisations;
  • Strong stakeholder management skills to build effective partnerships particularly with senior stakeholders;
  • Ability to synthesize a broad range of information and work through complexity to present to, influence and, if appropriate, challenge senior management;
  • Ability to work with ambiguity;
  • Demonstrated ability to remain abreast of changes in the external environment, including regulatory change, assess for relevance to the internal environment and recommend resultant actions;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data and timeliness of actions;
  • Working knowledge of and experience in key accountability regimes in Asia (Singapore, China and Hong Kong).
