About the Department

BASEA region covers 11 countries managed through 6 affiliates: Malaysia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka & Maldives, Singapore & Brunei and Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar with 500+ colleagues dedicated to Changing Diabetes, Changing Obesity, Changing possibilities in Haemophilia and to make a difference in the other chronic diseases we help treat. You will join the BASEA Business Area Legal & Compliance (L&C) department and report directly to the Senior L&C Director. This is an individual contributor role based in Singapore .

The Position

In this role, you will act as the BASEA Compliance Counsel working with the Senior L&C Director to ensure an effective compliance program and a robust compliance culture across the company affiliates in BASEA focused on prevention, detection (monitoring and reporting mechanisms) and response.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Embed an effective compliance communication program, including promoting understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures (including healthcare professional interactions, conflicts-of-interest, confidentiality/privacy, fraud, bribery, appropriate use of company assets, social conduct in the workplace), establish compliance committees as part of the region's operating cycle.
  • Lead during compliance audits and coordinate tracking of high-risk areas including implementing corrective action plans across affiliates in BASEA.
  • Harmonise or direct the appropriate Business Ethics (BE) policies and procedures across affiliates in BASEA, develop BE compliance training material, and conduct trainings and refreshers across the value chain.
  • Own and lead internal investigation cases, and will also be responsible for Data Privacy protection implementation ensuring compliance with local and global data protection requirements.
  • Assist other functions such as Business Ethics Compliance Office (BECO) and Group Internal Audit (GIA), International Operations (IO) and Regional office by collecting and coordinating internal Legal or compliance data from various departments and sources, as required.
Qualifications
  • 8-10+ years PQE (Post-Qualification Experience), with solid experience in an in-house role or a reputable law firm.
  • Significant healthcare experience particularly in the pharmaceutical industry with a good working knowledge of the US FCPA (Foreign Corrupt Practices Act).
  • You have regional experience or are a senior member of a robust compliance function in a publicly-traded multinational company; and a proven track record to work collaboratively across multiple functions in a matrix environment.
  • Proficient in adopting technology to deliver solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills with a proven ability to translate compliance issues into simple terms; you have the personality, stature and sense of humour to be able to work effectively with client groups at all levels; a BASEA 2nd language would be an advantage.
