POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in Singapore.

The International Blue Carbon Institute (IBCI) is advancing the science and support systems needed to unlock the full potential of blue carbon to address climate change, protect biodiversity and support threatened coastal communities. Partnering with governments, scientists, organizations, and local communities, the IBCI will develop and inform effective policy, finance, and
implementation strategies for blue carbon ecosystems.

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic research coordinator to join our team at the IBCI. The Coordinator for the Blue Carbon Research Program will play a pivotal role in overseeing and advancing our applied blue carbon research initiatives and programs. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of scientific research methodologies, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with researchers, scientists, and stakeholders, to provide research and administrative support for blue carbon-related research programs and projects. The Coordinator will be involved in various stages and aspects of the blue carbon research program, providing support crucial to manage and administer research projects, assist in grant writing, coordinate planning, execution, and administration of IBCI activities, and contribute to the communication of program outcomes and scientific findings.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research Program Support & Administration: Assist in the administration, planning, execution, and evaluation of blue carbon research programs that support our conservation objectives and strategic priorities.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with staff and partners in coordinating timelines, resources, and deliverables for multiple research projects.
  • Logistics & Planning Support: Provide logistics and planning support for blue carbon-related activities, workshops, meetings, events, and travel arrangements associated with these activities.
  • Project Management: Track blue carbon project contracts and delivery, donor agreements, and review for compliance with donor agreements for IBCI and blue carbon research program activities.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Work closely with the capacity-building and networking teams to support the establishment and maintenance of partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, governmental bodies, and other NGOs to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Grant Writing Assistance: Assist in the development of grant proposals and funding applications to secure resources for blue carbon research initiatives.
  • Scientific Communication: Contribute to the preparation of research reports, publications, and educational materials to disseminate findings to scientific communities, policymakers, and the public.
  • Ethical Compliance: Ensure that all research activities adhere to ethical standards, legal regulations, and institutional policies, promoting responsible and sustainable research practices.
  • Capacity Building: Participate in the mentorship and support of junior researchers and interns, contributing to knowledge exchange within the organization.
  • Public Awareness: Collaborate with the communications team to raise public awareness about the importance of research-driven conservation and its impact on environmental sustainability.
People and Resource Management Responsibilities
  • Does not manage staff but assists peers and may direct the work of interns, volunteers, contractors, and others.
  • Does not have authority to allocate resources or approve budget expenditures
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Hybrid work arrangement to be based out of the Singapore office. Flexible working hours but may need to work extended hours as needed.
  • Regular meetings with global partners and CI staff across different time zones.
  • The position may involve overseas travel to attend conferences, workshops, or meetings with research partners and stakeholders, CI program offices and partner institutions in the APAC region.
  • The role may occasionally involve work in natural settings or remote locations, depending on specific projects.
QUALIFICATIONS

Required
  • 2 to 4 years of experience.
  • Previous experience in research coordination, preferably within an academic, nature conservation, or environmental organization.
  • Excellent organizational and time and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong scientific writing and communication skills, with the ability to contribute to research reports and publications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work team environment.
  • Comfortable managing multiple duties and adapting to changing priorities.
Preferred
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Life Science, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with blue carbon, marine conservation challenges, and biodiversity issues is a plus.
  • A passion for nature conservation and a commitment to promoting environmental stewardship.
  • Courteous, tactful, and proven ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under the supervisor\'s direction.
  • Fluency in MS Office software and programs.
