About the Company JERA Global Markets (JERAGM) is a leading utility-backed seaborne energy trader specialising in LNG, Coal and Freight with a platform to trade across all key markets (North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia). DESIGNATION : Core Platform Development Manager, SG

RESPONSIBILITIES
Position Description At the core of JERAGM’s system landscape is a set of vendor systems that support critical business activities such as trading, risk management, pricing, and logistics. JERAGM have and will continue to make significant investments building on top of these systems to tailor them to the specific needs of its business. Up until now, this work has been performed by teams of consultants and the vendors of the systems. JERAGM would like to develop an in-house capability, so they can be self-sufficient in the ongoing development on this platform. The Core Platform Development Manager role build and lead a team to extend, customise, support, configure and integrate these systems to meet the ongoing needs of the business. Key Role Responsibilities The Core Platform Development Manager (DM) will:

  • Manage and motivate a small multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled software developers in the delivery of high quality, value-for-money software solutions as required to support the overall IT and business strategy.
  • Work closely with the functional, technical and process leads to ensure software development work is appropriately planned and resourced.
  • Work to maximise the value that the team can contribute to the organisation. When the resourcing demands are beyond the capacity and skill of the team, the DM will highlight to IT Management along with viable proposals to help to meet the shortfall.
  • Navigate the transition away from consultant/vendor-led IT delivery to a model where the majority of bespoke requirements are delivered by an internal development team. The DM must establish a fit-for-purpose, ongoing relationship with consultant/vendor organisations to ensure that JERAGM can draw upon additional expertise when required, and can efficiently deliver solutions that are in line with relevant warranty and support arrangements.
  • Work with JERAGM IT to evaluate the quality of the existing vendor system customisations and build out a prioritised backlog of improvements. The DM will advocate for, and then lead work to then safely improve the code estate to improve its flexibility and maintainability.
  • Ensure the values of collective ownership and responsibility are engrained into all members of the team.
  • Have a strong engineering focus and eye for high quality delivery. The DM will be expected to lead by example by delivering high quality software adhering to modern software engineering practices. The DM must drive forward the goal to automate everything as this is instilled in the culture of the team.
  • Have strong systems and business analysis skills, particularly in understanding the complexities of existing software systems.
  • Show a highly proactive attitude in learning and immersing themselves in the vendor platforms with the aim of gaining an expert knowledge of how to develop and support extensions and integrations.
  • Use their extensive business knowledge of the full transaction cycle within a multi-commodity energy trading environment to converse directly with users and other stakeholders with minimal hand-holding from Business Analysts.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills including the ability to mentor and coach more junior members of the team.
  • Demonstrate a broad set of technical skills including expert database development and administration skills, .NET/C# development skills, Powershell Automation/Devops skills and data visualisation/reporting skills such as Power BI, Tableau, SSRS and/or Crystal Reports.
  • Be comfortable with agile delivery modes such as Scrum or Kanban but also be flexible to work with whichever delivery approach works best for the problem at hand.
  • Provide 3rd line production support.


QUALIFICATIONS
Key Qualifications and Experience
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) with C# .NET
    • Very strong understanding of the core language and framework
    • Service oriented development (WCF, Web API or ASMX)
    • Data access development (ADO.NET, EF or equivalent such as NHibernate)
  • Extensive (10+ years) SQL Server database design and development skills (excellent SQL skills assumed). A good working knowledge of database performance optimisation is also required.
  • Experience with PowerShell
  • Experience with Microsoft-based BI stack, including SSIS, SSRS and Power BI
  • Experience with Azure PaaS and IaaS and corresponding automation toolkits
  • Experience with Windows Server infrastructure
  • Experience working with agile delivery methodologies such as SCRUM or Kanban

  • Highly motivated to continually develop skills and techniques to ensure the best tools are used for the job. Support, resources and technical mentoring will be provided by JERAGM as required
  • Highly motivated to deliver results and ‘go the extra mile’ to meet deadlines
  • Able to multi-task with minimal supervision and highly structured and organised in the way tasks are approached
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong academic background, educated to degree level and/or equivalent professional qualification or relevant business experience
