Job Description


Collaborative Support for Students: To work with staff, lecturers, parents, external professionals and community agencies to provide quality school counselling support for students\' mental health and social-emotional development within the ethical boundaries of the counselling endeavour.

Student Counselling: Provide individual and group counselling for students to help them build their resilience and capacity to cope with life\xe2\x80\x99s problems/challenges as well as to lead balanced and effective lives.

Crisis Intervention: Provide direct crisis intervention and follow-up to students affected by critical incidents.

Student Wellness: Promote wellness/well-being of students through the planning and implementation and review of wellness programmes and the building and dissemination of information/resources, where feasible.

Student Psycho-Education: Develop and conduct small/large group psycho-educational sessions for students on mental health issues and healthy coping strategies, where required.

Peer Support: Guide and coach the SIM Peer Mentors in their role to provide support to students in distress, where applicable.

Culture of Care and Support: Help promote the use of the Student Wellness Centre.

Division support: Provide direct support in the management of crisis situations and areas of Student Conduct, where required.

REQUIREMENTS:

Recognised degree in Counselling related discipline

Minimum 5 years of working experience, preferably in counselling or social work

Experience in offering counselling to the youth would be an advantage

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and presentation skills

Ability to engage effectively with people of diverse background

Ability to collaborate with parents and various stakeholders to support students

A team player who is able to work with academic staff and administrative support personnel

Ability to organise, multi-task and manage time effectively under pressure
