Requisition ID: 205801Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.PurposeLeads and oversees a team in Corporate Banking Group in Singapore ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.The Director Credit Execution is responsible for contributing to the profitable growth and quality of the bank\xe2\x80\x99s credit portfolio through effective negotiation, structuring, and presentation of credit proposals for senior management adjudication, and due execution of such proposals upon receipt of approvals in a manner consistent with service standards and procedures in support of the Bank\'s sales model. He/she also works closely with Relationship Managers at various regional units, as well as Industry experts/champions and Product Groups located within BNS Singapore such as Loan Syndications, Credit Capital Markets Group (CCG), Derivative Product Group Asia (DPG) and other specialist product managers for any product offerings involving credit risk relating to customers under his/her care. He/she also has responsibility for coaching and mentoring subordinates (whether direct report/s or on an ad hoc basis) and provide for their professional development. The incumbent maintains a strong and viable working relationship with GRM and the Relationship Managers at various units of the bank across Asia pacific.Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank\xe2\x80\x99s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
  • Builds a high performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vision/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • In keeping with BNS Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s business targets and goals, the incumbent contributes to the profitable development of corporate/commercial credit and other capital market and derivative businesses by providing sound financial analysis, deal memorandums/overviews and credit proposals on prospective new businesses to enable sound decision making by management/credit adjudicators.
  • Contributes to the maintenance of BNS Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s high credit quality/standing by working with his/her direct reports and ensuring that credit presentations for all new or existing credits are pertinently explained, accurately analysed and properly presented and reported upon in accordance with the Bank\'s established standards.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and training to direct reports (and other subordinates/colleagues on and ad hoc basis as requested by senior management) in the Bank\xe2\x80\x99s credit standards, policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and/or reviews loan documentation for new credits and changes to existing credits as per the terms of credit approvals as well as for the applicability of appropriate legalities, negotiating with lawyers, agent banks and borrowers so as to ensure that the Bank\'s guidelines are adhered to and its\xe2\x80\x99 interests under the general provisions of the credit documentation are adequately protected.
  • Monitors each borrowing account closely to detect/identify unfavourable trends or problems at an early stage and brings it to the attention of the management promptly. Actively implements remedial actions as necessary to address the situation including working with borrowers, agent banks, counsels and the bank\xe2\x80\x99s SAM department as may be necessary in work-outs of problematic customer accounts in order to maximise recoveries and minimise losses to the bank.
  • Assists in the operational and administrative matters concerning his / her loan portfolio by working effectively with Credit Administration / Loan Agency and Singapore Back Office departments to ensure that all administrative, operational, reporting, KYC and other matters relating to his / her portfolio are properly conducted and completed.
Dimensions
  • The position demands a high degree of product knowledge, strong financial, credit analysis, and documentation skills, and in-depth industry / legal framework / relevant regulations / market knowledge across the region in which BNS Singapore serves to evaluate, negotiate, and execute complex deals.
  • The position requires management of a complex and growing portfolio of accounts from diversified sectors, currently with a primary focus on Singapore and Australia.
  • The position may also be required to provide assistance and support to the BNS Australia & Singapore origination teams who are mandated to grow the business in the Asia Pacific region and the Latam Pacific-Alliance countries (Mexico / Chile / Colombia / Peru), and other relevant regions to the extent of deepening existing customer relationships; new assets / accounts will be added on an ongoing basis.
  • Role interacts with external (clients, legal counsels, other banks, agent banks, etc.) and internal (RMs, business & origination teams, GLS, capital markets teams DCM, DPG, GRM, internal legal, credit admin, loans operations, etc.) parties.
  • When required, to liaise with Banks and customers regarding new deals as well as ongoing communication with the client for general administrative matters.
  • To provide support to the Syndications Team on corporate deals as required, GCM Product Group \xe2\x80\x93 such as DPG and DCM, etc.
  • To provide leadership, guidance and training to subordinates, peers, and direct report/s (if applicable).
Experience/Other Information
  • A good graduate degree with appropriate additional professional qualification in business management, administration or accounting from professionally accredited institutions.
  • Minimum ~15 years banking experience, in particular, in corporate / commercial lending experience.
  • Good coaching and managerial skills.
Preferred :
  • Experience in handling credits in different geographic areas of the Asia Pacific region that are the responsibility of BNS Singapore as well as complex and specialized credits across a wide variety of industries.
