About this opportunity


This is an interesting opportunity for Director, Managing Counsel, Southeast Asia & India. The ideal candidate will be an experienced lawyer who possesses excellent legal professional expertise, as well as intellectual flexibility and versatility, solid business acumen and judgment, and thoughtful, sensitive, and persuasive interpersonal skills. This person will manage all legal matters impacting Align Technology\xe2\x80\x99s business in Southeast Asia as well as India, and actively contribute to the APAC Legal agenda.

  • Report to VP and Regional General Counsel APAC of Align Technology
  • Provide support in reviewing marketing proposals and collaterals and educating marketing team to ensure compliance with local laws, regulations and codes which apply to medical devices in the field of advertising, promotion, and labelling.
  • Draft, review, negotiate or otherwise provide legal support to the various types of contracts and commercial transactions arising from the growing business of Align Technology in SEA and India.
  • Communicate and coordinate with global team with respect to contract approval, filing and management process.
  • Prepare and review sales support documents and assisting in developing standard document templates and related SOPs.
  • Provide regular trainings and guidance to the business to ensure legal compliance with respect to contract approval, execution and filing, and other legal / compliance topics.
  • Monitor and handle compliance matters in SEA and India.
  • Manage litigation matters in SEA and India.
  • Coordinate with external counsel on the various legal matters and providing support in Align Technology\xe2\x80\x99s interactions with government regulators in SEA and India.
  • Monitor major legislative developments and regulatory changes that is relevant to Align Technology and update legal and commercial teams accordingly.
  • Be a member of the Southeast Asia Leadership Team, India Leadership Team and APAC Legal Core Team.
  • Lead legal projects at both regional and local levels with minimum or no supervision.
  • Manage a legal team of 3 other legal professionals and legal budget in SEA and India.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Completion of an LL.B or J.D. degree from a leading US/UK, Singapore or India university.
  • 12+ years\xe2\x80\x99 work experience with an international and/or leading law firm or equivalent in-house experience with a multinational company, or a combination of the two.
  • Substantial experience in contracts, distributorship, sales support, other commercial activities, product liability and consumer protection, trade and logistics, employment, corporate governance and other general corporate matters required.
  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or other healthcare sectors strongly preferred.
  • Experience in advertising and promotion compliance (especially, consumer-facing marketing), brand protection and trademark enforcement, and anti-bribery compliance preferred.
  • Experience in managing regional legal affairs or more than one market in SEA/India strong referred.

  • Ability to independently make sound judgments and recommendations on complex commercial and compliance issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience including legal, business, marketing and highly specialized technical individuals.
  • Flexible and willing to learn sensitivities and issues represented in different legal systems and adapt to a continuously changing legal environment.
  • Self-motivator, quick-learner and team oriented.
  • Ability to perform in a very fast-paced, highly customized business environment.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to lead cross functional projects that involve multi-markets in a rapidly-changing legal and regulatory environment.
  • A pleasant personality with good interpersonal skill. People management skills highly desired.
  • Legal operations and legal budget management.
