Job SummaryThe Director of Finance (DOF) holds the key leadership of the Finance Department for Hotel. The individual is responsible for safeguarding the hotel assets and financial resources contributing towards maximizing hotel profitability. As a member of the Guidance Team, the individual provides the leadership, vision and strategic direction in continuous improvement of operation standards to ensure that the internal control is in place and the Hotel deliver stellar level of service to all guests and achieve long-term financial performance for the Owner and the Hotel.The RoleFinancial Accounting and Corporate Reporting Function

  • A member of the Guidance Team participates and contributes in the preparation and development of the Hotel\' strategic and Business Plan
  • Provide inspirational leadership with a clear vision and direction to team members to ensure delivery of the Capella brand values and vision, to create an amazing experience for all guests and colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with Operating Agreement, Licensing and Royalty Agreement, Side Letters and any amendments to the Agreements
  • Oversees and manages all aspects of the Finance department and ensures that all colleagues comply with operating standards and procedures, policies and guidelines set by the Corporate Office and Hotel
  • Continuously deliver the highest level of product with respect to financial reporting and analysis, internal control compliance and business management, and ensure this is done with both integrity and accuracy
  • Ensure timely submission of all internal and external reports within the stipulated due dates. These reports include but not limited to submission to the Hotel team, Corporate Office, Owner, and local bureaus or authorities where applicable
  • Ensure monthly financial statements and reporting are prepared timely and accurately
  • Ensures that monthly reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts are prepared, reviewed, followed up and signed off in accordance with policy
  • Review and sign off on all bank reconciliations monthly, paying special attention to reconciling items
  • Monitor, control and record all financial transactions accurately in the book of accounts including but not limited to sales, purchases, salaries and expenses of the hotel
  • Monitor and effectively manage labor costs; plan vacations effectively and ensure proper service levels are provided with the labor standards, while minimizing over-time.
  • Prepare and submit operating budget and capital expenditure budget as required by Hotel, Corporate Office and/or Owners within stipulated due dates, and manage the execution accordingly
  • Ensure monthly financial forecast is prepared timely and accurately, and work together with General Manager and Guidance Team in driving financial performance to maximize revenue and profitability without compromising the quality and standards
  • Ensure effective internal control is in place. Ensure periodic audits are conducted and action plans are implemented to remedy the weaknesses
  • Review the cash position of the Hotel on a daily basis in order to ensure sufficient working capital for operation needs and optimize the use of funds
  • Periodically review and update departmental SOPs to ensure continuous improvement and maximizes efficiency of operation and cost management
  • Ensure permits and licenses are in place and renewed as per requirement
  • Actively participate in the Risk Committee planning, meetings and contribute to establish compliance with all safety and security measures and policies set by the committee
  • Liaise with external parties such as external auditors, tax bureaus, local government bureaus/authorities, legal advisers and financial institutions/bankers where required
  • Ensure adequate insurance coverage for the Hotel including but not limited to property, operational and general insurances and liaise with insurance broker and/or company on insurance claims
  • Review all contracts to limit the risks and exposures of Hotel, and obtain legal advice where required
  • Maintains strong working relationships with other departments to ensure effective communications for operational issues, serves as a role model for inter-departmental collaboration and support
  • Report any issue or damages and breakdowns within working areas and the Hotel to ensure a defect-free facilities and service amenities provided
  • Undertake any ad-hoc duties, tasks or projects as required
Manage Team
  • Manage the human resources in the division to attract and retain colleagues
  • Review talent capability and develop high potential colleagues for the division
  • Identify training needs of the division and implement a training plan in conjunction with the department heads to close gaps
  • Support and actively participate in the planning and execution of the hotel\'s overall staff development and retention efforts
Talent Profile
  • Masters/Degree in Business Management preferably specializing in Finance Management
  • Minimum 5 years\' experience in similar role at luxury hotel/resort
  • Competent computing skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Excellent command of English
