Job Description


What the role is:You will join our dynamic Religious Policy and Development team, contributing to both operational and strategic policy-related matters.What you will be working on:Khutbah (Friday Sermon) DevelopmentContent Development & Review:

  • Develop annual khutbah framework through comprehensive research on current events, social issues, and relevant religious teachings
  • Establish ground-sensing mechanisms through focus group discussions, surveys, and other appropriate methods
  • Analyse feedback and make recommendations for revisions to ensure relevance and impact
Khutbah Writing and Translation:
  • Draft spiritually uplifting and impactful sermons that develop progressive community religious life
  • Ensure alignment with Islamic principles and teachings
  • Adapt content for diverse audience demographics and local cultural and religious sensitivities
Deviant Teachings (DT)
  • Conduct fact-finding work and follow up on reported DT cases from inception to resolution
  • Propose and implement strategies to address DT issues
  • Engage external stakeholders to support the implementation and adaptation of developed policies within the community
  • Provide expert guidance and advice to government agencies, religious institutions, and community organisations on DT-related matters
Policy Development and Implementation
  • Contribute to the formulation of religious policies that promote religious and social harmony and spiritual growth
  • Engage with external stakeholders to ensure effective policy implementation and understanding
  • Develop comprehensive policy papers and recommendations on various religious matters
Administrative Duties
  • Draft religious policy replies to interagency queries and internal departments
  • Conduct religious counselling on specific issues, such as beard-keeping for National Servicemen
  • Process clearances for mosque religious officers and foreign worker Imams
  • Support and provide oversight for projects such as conferences and seminars, including preparation of research agenda, meeting note and reports
What we are looking for:
  • Tertiary education in Islamic Studies or related fields
  • Strong understanding of Islamic principles and contemporary religious issues and local religious and cultural sensitivities
  • Some experience in policy-oriented work within a religious or cultural setting will be an advantage
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Malay and proficiency in Arabic is a must as selected candidate will be required to work with materials in these languages.
  • Proficiency in Tamil and Bengali is an advantage as candidate may be required to work with materials and correspond with stakeholders in these languages.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and AI applications.
  • Highly disciplined, self-starter, multitasker, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable with tight datelines.
Successful candidate will be appointed on contract basis.In general, applicants can expect to hear from us within 4 weeks of the close of the application window.
