Job Description


The Asian Civilisations Museum is the only museum in the region devoted to exploring the rich artistic heritage of Asia, especially the ancestral cultures of Singaporeans. Opened in 1997 and in its present building by the Singapore River since 2003, the museum traces its roots to the Raffles Museum, founded in the middle of 19th century. ACM focuses on the many historical and artistic connections between the cultures of Asia, and between Asia and the world.

Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s history as a port city that brought people together from all over the world is used as a means of examining the history of Asia. Objects on display tell stories of the trade and the exchange of ideas that were the result of international commerce, as well as the flow of religions and faith through Asia.

Asian Civilisation Museum manages the Peranakan Museum. The Peranakan Museum (TPM) explores the art and culture of Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia and possesses one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of Peranakan objects. Galleries on three floors illustrate the cultural traditions and distinctive visual arts of Peranakans. Responsibilities :

  • Work closely with a team of exhibition technical services officers on specialist lighting design / ambience lighting for galleries, exhibitions, programmes and events
  • Manage art-handling of artefacts during installation / de-installation of gallery displays and exhibitions, including mounting of artefacts and displays
  • Support exhibitions work in design development and fabrication to ensure compliance with various authority guidelines (e.g. fire safety clearances, FSSD submission, QP/PE endorsements, technical assessments of exhibition designs and drawings) as well as with accessibility guidelines (BCA, barrier-free for PWDs etc)
  • Support daily maintenance works in the galleries including set up and maintenance of interactive kiosks / multimedia players, as well as front-of-house events (VIPs, diplomatic visits, public programmes) where required
  • Effective engagement and communication with internal and external stakeholders, designers, contractors, venue rental clients, as well as other project partners such as lenders, curators, project managers, collection registrars, conservators, programmers to ensure successful and timely delivery of all works
  • Provide basic computer drafting and visuals for gallery spaces and artefact displays where necessary
  • Any other ad hoc duties as assigned
Requirements :
  • Preferably at least 3 years of relevant technical background and experience in the art and culture industry.
  • Experience and knowledge in the use of different types of lighting to complement a variety of displays or events
  • Meticulous and attentive to details with regard to technical drawings, environmental conditions and installation processes
  • Efficient, organised, highly motivated with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be comfortable with heights and working on a ladder. License to operate a cherry picker lift/MEWP/scissor lift will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to produce basic computer drawings and visuals with CAD and 3D rendering software will be added advantage
  • Familiarity with authority compliances (BCA, FSSD, SCDF guidelines) will be an added advantage
