As a CO+I Fiber Delivery Engineer (OSP), you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Be at the forefront of the action in CO+I as part of our global datacenter operations. In this role, you will have an opportunity to shape our team’s best practices, working with our partners: Azure Networking, Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure, and Datacenter Field Operations teams. As a Fiber Delivery Engineer (OSP), you will contribute to building a world-class network infrastructure by working with suppliers and internal stakeholders to plan diversity, POE, and internal fiber routing and termination points. Throughout delivery process, closely managing progress of implementation and risks by producing mitigation options, to ensure Fiber is delivered on-time and in compliance to Microsoft Core Fiber Standards by reviewing Fiber Test results and producing as-build schematics.

Responsibilities


Core Responsibilities:
  • Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspects of datacenter activities
  • Provide commercial team support, by offering technical expertise and drawings for the diversity, identification POE and internal routing to termination points.
  • Frontline technical project management with external suppliers by pulling and tracking construction schedules, including civils, permitting, cable overpulls, overlaying with E2E schedule and producing reports.
  • Communicating status and producing reports, as required, to cross functional teams as well as Leadership.
  • Managing risks and producing mitigation options using market intelligence.
  • Throughout Delivery phase, conducting quality assurance inspections remote or by traveling to sites.
  • Managing remediation activities with supplier and independent 3rd party Fiber Characterization Team.
  • Reviewing FC Results and ensuring those are within Microsoft Core Fiber Standards, producing as-build documentation including technical schematics.
  • Learn, live, and coach the One Microsoft culture and values. Lead through change by bringing clarity, generating energy, and delivering success

Qualifications


Basic Qualifications:
  • BS or BA degree in Engineering/IT/Telecommunication or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience required in telecommunications construction management or operations engineering or vendor delivery management
  • 5+ years demonstrated project management experience and critical thinking
  • Demonstrated experience in managing Dark Fiber Outside Plant Projects, including Civils, Permitting/Wayleaves
  • Experience working with external vendors and suppliers, maintaining good working relationships and strong communication channels whilst driving delivery schedule timelines to achieve business goals
  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS solutions
  • Experience and understanding of Design drawings and As Built drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience in reading Fiber Test Result (OTDR, PMD, CMD)
  • Demonstrated experience by reviewing and validating RAMS while partnering with local Health and Safety teams to ensure compliance with local standards.
  • Solid grasp and experience with workflow management
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience in managing multiple projects at scale
Preferred Experiences:
  • Demonstrated understanding in Outside Plant Telecommunications Infrastructure Standards (TIA, Telcordia)
  • Experience developing robust, scalable and diversified operating procedures and strategies for Fiber Sourcing and Delivery segments.
  • Demonstrative experience in partnering with external suppliers and internal cross functional teams by removing boundaries and solving complex Network Capacity Delivery matters.

Travel Requirement: Ability to travel domestic (20%) and worldwide (10%) as required in both planned and unplanned scenarios
Background Check Requirements: The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
