About the role The purpose of Rio Tinto Marine (Marine) is to create value for the Group by leveraging its competitive advantages in the shipping industry. This entails being the central repository of marine supply chain expertise in the Rio Tinto Group, with a comprehensive understanding of all aspects of marine transportation, global freight markets and the international regulatory environment.
We are looking for a Fleet Performance Supervisor to optimize the fuel consumption and voyage efficiency of Own and TC vessels there by abating the emission from shipping of our products. The role increases in-house capability and assure the products are shipped in the most economical way possible. Reporting to the Manager Marine Technical Performance, you will:
Operations:
  • Manage all aspects of vessel technical performance across the fleet of TC & Owned vessels in close liaison with Ship managers
  • Monitor technical systems, noon reports and vessel engine performance statistics to identify improvement opportunities / initiatives
  • Track vessels emissions and identify opportunities to improve the emission rating of the vessels.
  • Benchmark fleet and report on vessel performance and improvement strategies
  • Provide insights and feedback to the Internal stakeholders on the vessel’s performance
  • Own and continuously develop performance systems and KPIs to monitor and improve fuel performance
Projects:
  • Working with the Manager Technical Performance and the broader Marine team, lead complex, multi-stakeholder fuel optimisation projects
  • Identify and develop projects to optimise long term Time Charter vessels performance.
  • Support projects for Marine decarbonisation through technical and strategic inputs


About you
  • Sailed as senior engineer onboard
  • Minimum 2 years onshore experience working with vessel fuel optimisation
  • Strong analytical capabilities with an ability to compose and present concepts & innovations as required
  • Strong negotiation and influencing ability as well as presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently, lead multiple projects concurrently, and think laterally with limited guidance
  • Able to work well with various stakeholders across different levels and cultures.


It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • Prior sailing experience with gas engine
