Summary of the Position :

Novavax is seeking a talented individual to join our team as General Manager, Asia-Pacific. The General Manager, Asia-Pacific will play a pivotal role in building a commercial organization in Asia to support all Novavax products, starting with NVX-CoV-2373, our COVID-19 vaccine candidate. In this role, the individual will provide strong leadership skills, local strategic insight and planning with an entrepreneurial spirit and hands-on approach. The individual will bring general management experience, a strong track record with achievements and results demonstrated over time, coupled with a team-building approach to ensure local level insights and needs are incorporated/adapted into the global campaigns for all key stakeholders, including HCPs, pharmacists, and consumers.

Furthermore, through strong knowledge of the bio-pharma industry and deep understanding of the various country health systems & priorities the individual will identify the relevant healthcare national/regional needs and develop appropriate programs to address them. He/she will manage multiple influential stakeholders at the political level, industry associations, professional institutions, advocacy groups and the medical community.

Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry the competitor landscape, and key government & payers' stakeholders should allow you to effectively work externally and advance our company strategy to protect the health of people everywhere.

This position will oversee the commercial operations and overall business across Asia with P&L responsibility. The colleague will be part of a global commercial team, who will report into the Chief Commercial Officer based in Gaithersburg, MD and partner closely with the Headquarters counterparts in Commercial Strategy, Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Government Affairs and Alliances and Policy based in the US.

Candidate should have prior general management experience with new product launch experience, preferably in vaccine or infectious diseases

This person will report to the Chief Commercial Officer & Chief Business Officer.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Execution of the global commercial strategy in close collaboration with Headquarter counterparts in commercial strategy, marketing, sales, government affairs, policy & market access.
  • Lead pricing & reimbursement negotiations with the local authorities including any anticipated national/regional future tenders.
  • Anticipate the private market opportunity for vaccines in parallel to the government immunization programs to ensure that when this opportunity will be available, we will be ready for it.
  • Lead engagement activities with the key experts and stakeholders, in partnership with the medical affairs.
  • Contribute to the development and the implementation of local country strategies in close collaboration with the marketing & medical teams and champion the HQ/Regional - affiliate collaboration to ensure our customers' needs are met with speed and quality
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable laws, codes, and regulations in the country / cluster
  • Drive vaccines & infectious disease policy shaping strategy and execution at the local level
  • Align on trade association engagement strategy and represent Novavax externally in relevant policy discussions and the interactions with various bodies in Industry associations
  • Identify and support opportunities for leadership in external forums and events regarding vaccine development, access, pricing, immunization systems and deployment
  • Drive launch excellence for the Novavax NVX-CoV2373
  • In partnership with the Communications team, engage with key/selected media, closely collaborate with the local PR team
Minimum requirements :
  • Higher University degree (PhD or Master) in life science, Business Degree, Public Health or Law (PhD plus Business Degree preferred)
  • Robust General Management experience (min 12 years) out of which minimum 5 years in the respective country / cluster in the bio/pharmaceutical industry (General management, Commercial Government Affairs & Markets Access).
  • Proven ability to develop external networks
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to influence and effectively engage internally & externally
  • Strong sense of priorities and able to handle various projects simultaneously, sometimes with short timelines
  • Experience working with industry groups and alliances
  • Strong diplomatic & interpersonal skills and able to inspire respect and trust from others
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to influence without authority
  • Strong business acumen, analytical skills and sharp learning agility
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with regional & global partners
  • Demonstrate ability to lead boldly and collaboratively
  • Fluent in English
