For over 200 years and more than seven generations we\xe2\x80\x99ve grown and developed our expertise in tandem with our clients\xe2\x80\x99 needs and interests.*as at 30 June 2023The RoleThis role is part of Schroders\xe2\x80\x99 Risk and Compliance community, which has about 100 professional staff and provides support for 27 countries worldwide including Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Indonesia and Australia in Asia Pacific.This role will be based in Singapore providing compliance support to management and business function heads of Schroders Singapore for its business activities covering the South East Asia (\xe2\x80\x9cSEA\xe2\x80\x9d) region. The individual will work very closely with the Compliance, Legal and Risk teams in Asia Pacific.Key Areas of Responsibilities

  • Advise on rules and regulations associated with the Schroders Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s current and proposed business activities including new business initiatives, new products and new client relationships across SEA.
  • Provide support to the management and staff of Schroders Singapore on interpretation of regulatory obligations and compliance requirements and monitor adherence with legal and regulatory obligations in Singapore and SEA.
  • Report on Compliance and Risk matters to the Board and Senior Management of Schroders Singapore and Schroders Group.
  • Provide leadership and supervise the Compliance team in Schroders Singapore and Schroders Indonesia to discharge their responsibilities properly to support management and business.
  • Support the Head of Compliance, Asia Pacific to oversee the compliance arrangements and requirements across Asia Pacific, including the planning and execution of compliance and related projects.
  • Monitor Schroders Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s compliance with the relevant legal and regulatory requirements as well as established internal policies and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments in Singapore and SEA and disseminate the information on updates/amendments and impact on Schroders Singapore, including its subsidiaries and related companies.
  • Assess and provide feedback to the Monetary Authority of Singapore, government agencies and overseas regulatory authorities (where relevant) on policies that may have an impact on Schroders Group and Schroders Singapore.
  • Keep Schroders Group Compliance informed of significant regulatory developing and potential changes which may affect Schroders Group.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with the relevant regulators, and act as the primary contact with regulators and relevant external bodies on compliance matters.
  • Participate actively and take lead where appropriate, in industry associations or industry forums to articulate our views, influence the decision making process and raise Schroders profile.
  • Plan and implement a risk based compliance monitoring programme to provide assurance to Board and Senior Management that proper arrangements and controls are in place to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and Group compliance policies.
  • To act as the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (\xe2\x80\x9cMLRO\xe2\x80\x9d) for Schroders Singapore and assist the Board and Senior Management to fulfil and discharge their responsibilities to establish and maintain effective anti-money laundering policies and controls. Key duties include:
  • The identification of money laundering risk.
  • To oversee Schroders Singapore\xe2\x80\x99s compliance with local laws, regulations, internal policies and procedures on AML and to carry out regular assessments of their adequacy in proportion to the risk, nature, scale and complexity of the business.
  • To monitor the operation and effectiveness of Schroders Singapore\xe2\x80\x99 AML systems and controls and to provide a report on this to senior management at least annually.
  • To handle the reporting of suspicious transactions to the relevant authorities and liaising with external parties as required.
  • To advise the Group MLRO of significant issues for escalation to senior management and providing the Group MLRO with copies of suspicious activity reports made to local authorities (where confidentiality laws permit).
  • To ensure that adequate arrangements are in place to provide staff with money laundering awareness and training.
  • Ensure that adequate arrangements and oversight monitoring have been put in place to meet the regulatory obligations and group policy requirements on delegated accounts and other functions outsourced to internal or external parties.
  • Exercise proper oversight and handling of whistle blows, complaints, breaches and risk events and escalate internally and report to regulators where required/appropriate.
  • Maintain Compliance Policies and Manuals to ensure that they are up to date, reflecting relevant regulatory obligations, group standards, market practice and internal procedures.
  • Educate and train staff on applicable rules and regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain good relationship and close interaction with the compliance counterparts of our Joint Ventures and Strategic Partners to ensure that they have proper compliance arrangements and oversight to protect reputational risks to Schroders.
Essential Skills/ Requirements
  • At least 12 years\' experience in a compliance function.
  • Experience with the regulatory requirements and industry standards impacting the asset management industry.
  • Experience in leading new business initiatives and driving things through to execution.
  • Knowledge and experience on business and regulatory requirements in South East Asia countries will be an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to details.
  • Able to work under pressure and in a fast paced environment.
  • Good interpersonal skill with the ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Good organisational and project management skills to manage different tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Reliable, self-motivated.
  • Able to work well independently and within a team.
  • Willing to travel on business for a short period of time.
