The Role

The Head of External Communications, APAC for Chubb is responsible for developing and deploying various communications strategies for a diverse and broad set of external stakeholders across B2B, B2C and B2B2C. The successful candidate will be an experienced practitioner, who has deep working knowledge of the financial services sector/insurance or another dynamic sector. S/he is a collaborator who delivers results in a highly matrixed, global environment working across many time zones and with different countries.

The ideal candidate brings their long-standing relationships with the media across APAC to the role \xe2\x80\x93 print, broadcast and on-line. S/he will strategize and execute a media relations agenda that supports the overarching objectives of the company (for the General Insurance and Life businesses), the APAC leadership teams and subject matter experts.

This individual will also work with the in-country teams to manage local media activities to ensure regional and global alignment and help deliver best practices and excellence in creating narratives. This is a newly created role reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer, APAC will work closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications for Chubb Life and the SVP, Global Head of Media Relations & Financial Communications.

The successful candidate will have a track record in high quality media placements and established relationships with a broad range of reporters, editors and producers, preferably in the financial services sector. S/he will have a nose for news and the ability to create compelling stories and brand narratives along with the ability to effectively support subject-matter experts and executives across the region. S/he will bring creativity, tenacity, exceptional writing and communication skills to the role, and will quickly establish an understanding of the insurance market, the news cycle and sentiment towards financial services and Chubb\xe2\x80\x99s brand value proposition.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the APAC External Communications Centre of Excellence.
  • In coordination with senior leaders in APAC, and in-country communications teams, this role will be responsible for developing and implementing a media relations strategy that is aligned with business objectives and ensuring this strategy is integrated and consistently articulated
  • Oversee media efforts and proactive outreach around the business strategy; oversee media efforts across multiple businesses, functions and countries, in lock step with regional and global Centres of Excellence, and other marketing and communications disciplines
  • Work with the global Media team to ensure the APAC narrative across Chubb and Chubb Life is understood and consistently communicated
  • Collaborate with the SVP Global External Communications and Financial Communications and ensure global standards are being met across the region
  • Drive collaboration and integration across the broader organisation to ensure alignment and maximise premium coverage
  • Improve established processes and procedures internally and with outside vendors, at both a regional and country level
  • Oversee in-country media relations activities to ensure the local teams are aligning media activity to their business priorities and global standards
  • Ensure the reputation of the company and its brand is always of utmost importance; subject matter experts are fully coached and prepared for each media interaction
  • Maintain and diversify APAC\xe2\x80\x99s subject matter expert list, media coaching and tracking
  • Manage media monitoring for APAC, ensuring senior leaders receive daily media updates
  • Effectively position subject matter experts as thought leaders and spokespeople on important topics and in venues that are strategic priorities
  • Stay apprised of news and trends that impact the financial services and insurance industry
  • Actively monitor both existing and emerging issues that could impact the Chubb brand and develop strategies for addressing each issue
  • Build best practices to ensure consistent approach for managing media events, launches and conferences
  • Demonstrate commercial acumen and an ability to build, evaluate and maintain relationships with key strategic partners in and around the media
  • Produce communications including business messaging, talking points, Q&A documents, news releases, news and feature articles
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies
Qualifications

Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience working in a PR/communications agency, publishing/journalism or a client-side communications, role with proven results generating top-tier media coverage
  • Financial services experience, particularly insurance, highly desirable
  • Solid track record of interacting with members of the media across APAC \xe2\x80\x93 proactively identifying, developing and pitching stories to journalists, that produce a steady stream of coverage
  • Analytical thinker who can craft clear messages and storylines from complex issues
  • Fluency with key media channels \xe2\x80\x93 traditional, broadcast, online, social media
  • A well-developed news sense and understanding of how journalists do their job

  • Ability to project-manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
  • Executive presence, gravitas and credibility to influence and give counsel to executives

  • Comfortable working in a complex, global organisation that requires influence in order to achieve success
Education/ Certifications
  • Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field
  • Advanced degree is highly desirable, but not required
Technical Skills
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Outstanding writing, editorial and storytelling skills
  • Strong project management skills and experience
  • Strong critical and strategic thinking skills
