We are also active in the Infection, Neuroscience and Gastrointestinal (ING) disease areas. We are looking to appoint an IT & Digital Lead in Asia for our rare disease unit (RDU), who will lead, deliver and support our next-generation of technology, digital & data solutions specific to this Rare Disease business model and therapeutic area. The successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial, innovative, strategic while proactive and get-things-done focused leader who understands Rare Disease strategy and have experience leveraging technology, digital & data cross-functionally. This role will be partnering with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure RDU's technology, digital & data footprint continues to evolve, bring more value to our business and patients. The role will work closely with the RD business unit leaders and RDU IT organization to ensure business growth, acceleration and efficiency. Our ambition is to be a healthcare pioneer in identifying suitable technology to help patients and the wider ecosystem. Asia Area consists of India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. We have a total of about 3,400 employees and a revenue of over 1 billion USD. Asia Area is a dynamic, collaborative, and fast-growing business. Note that China/HK, Japan, and Australia/NZ are not in geographical scope for this role. Background of the Role At AstraZeneca, our IT organisation is pushing the boundaries of technology to enable the digitisation and transformation of the business. Our key ambition is “Growth Through Innovation”, an initiative that focuses on innovative solutions and patient centricity. AstraZeneca has recently made several acquisitions that dramatically increases our footprint in rare diseases and specialty care. Asia Area has ambitious plans in each of our markets to introduce new therapies and services to patients in this space. The Asia IT & Digital Lead for the rare disease unit will lead the technology strategy for Asia, taking best practices from our mature markets (Taiwan and South Korea, as well as the rest of the world) and launching related technology. The role will require a lot of convincing and education as several of our markets are new to the therapeutic area. There will also be a strong focus on true realisation of value because of the strategy. Act as main IT point of contact for Rare Disease business in Asia, responsible for Business & IT strategic alignment, road mapping, solution co-design, co-creation and delivery with main focus on Commercial & Medical functions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Asia RDU business functions, IT RDU & AZ global CoEs, innovation group, etc. and act as cross-functional liaison and catalyst for Asia RDU value creation
  • Active leadership in the identification of critical needs and ASIA RDU business growth opportunities and contribute to the development of high added value initiatives across the region (SaMD, Digital Health, AI etc.)
  • Key IT point of contact for RDU Asia to ideate, co-design and build next generation of Digital health, AI data driven, medical devices and Digital Engagement Platforms solutions.
  • Support RDU Asia, Product launches, growth and business transformation by providing expertise, guidance, consultation, and support as needed. Responsible of business requirement capture, technical & functional documentations, framework and governance creation (example for SaMD) , solution design and co-design, and end to end management of pilot, MPV and solutions delivery with a strong focus on People, Data, Process & System alignment , Adoption and Value creation.
  • Own accountability for our Asia rare disease unit’s technology, Digital & Data strategy and implementation.
  • Manage any IT & Digital budget allocated to the development of associated technology.
  • Reach out, build, and maintain relationships with critical parts of the specialty care health RDU ecosystem, including internal teams, patient advocacy groups, rare disease organisations, government officials, suitable corporate partners, parts of the innovation ecosystem and other technology companies.
  • Provide strategic input to local IT & Digital, commercial, and medical teams within Asia on topics related to rare disease.
  • Work closely with the other Asia IT & Digital service-line leans and Alexion RDU IT to collaboratively deliver the strategy.
Essential for the role
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant business qualification
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical or similar industry
  • Experience in Rare Disease. GxP certification preferred.
  • Commercial & Medical business acumen with Experience in omnichannel/CLM, Patient Support program, CRM/Health cloud, Digital health and SaMD
  • Experience in Data , processes and system integration enabling product and indication launches in pharma industry
  • Strong experience in all aspects of information technology, Digital and data, capturing requirement and transforming into Business solution
  • Proactive mindset, with an ability to lead from the front and be comfortable learning business content
  • Experience of leadership in a complex/geographical context
  • Ability to develop and create compelling business cases to promote new technologies and outcomes to the business
  • Strong communication and influencing skills

Desirable for the role
  • Project management and business transformation experience. Business value leveraging technology and digital demonstrated track record
  • Deep experience of understanding (external) customer and Patient journeys and designing new customer experiences
  • Strong track record of delivering Innovation solutions that move past the conceptualisation stage
  • Leader within Pharmaceutical thought leadership networks and organisations
  • Experience managing teams, with excellent team-working skills (especially in a culturally diverse environment) and a willingness to get alongside issues, provide clear direction and drive results
