We are seeking a desk-based journalist to develop and deliver stories for the online platform of CNA.

The successful candidate will:

• Collect and assess information about newsworthy events from a variety of sources, including press releases, social media, other news outlets, tip offs and individual contacts
• Write digital news stories with text and visual elements (such as photos, videos and graphics)
• On occasion, propose, research and write value-added stories such as explainer pieces and follow-up articles
• Gather and verify information through interviews, observation and research
• Liaise with digital journalists in the field as well as editorial staff from other news platforms to ensure that news stories they are filing are processed promptly and presented as effectively as possible
• Utilise social media as a tool for news gathering as well as promoting stories

Requirements :

• Degree in Mass Communication, Arts and Social Sciences or related areas
• Be aware of trends in digital news and social media
• Be comfortable with handling all aspects of a digital news story, including visual material
• Ability to exercise individual judgment, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
• An outstanding grasp of current issues and news, both locally and globally
• Experience of working in a newsroom, preferably with a strong emphasis on online news
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English
• Be prepared to work irregular hours, including some weekends, public holidays and overnight shifts
