Job Description


  • Prepare and provide apparatus, chemicals and equipment as requested by the Science Teachers. May include chemicals, biological materials, equipments, models and disposable materials such as stationery.
  • Set up demostration experiments when requested by Science Teachers.
  • Perform risk assesments to all practicals, prior to Teachers starting on experiments.
  • Update practical worksheets given by Science Teachers into online Lab Tech Notebook (OneNote).
  • Set up experiments for Science Teachers to trial prior to teaching, and if requested to test the experiments prior to teaching.
  • Ensure Materials Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) reference file for all chemicals are updated and stored in the prep room.
  • Assist students with equipment and chemical requests for individual students project, if any.
  • Collect and clear away equipments and chemicials, and other teaching material once it is finished with, including safely disposing of chemicals or biological waste and washing-up glass apparatus.
  • Check for faulty and damaged equipment after each lesson.
  • Ensure apparatus and chemical inventory are up to date and inventory levels are maintained for all labs.
  • Procurement of consumables, chemicals, apparatus and equipment including requesting for quotation from vendors and submitting procurement forms to the school\'s admin team.
  • Receive and unpack of procured items and update of inventory (for newly delivered chemicals and equipment).
Monthly/Term Duties
  • Perform hazardous substance stock checing (Sodium Hydroxide, Ammonia, Hydrochloric Acid, Nitric Acid, Sulphuric Acide, Acetic Acid) and to update in checklist. This has to be done in the compliance to NEA.
  • Ensure eye wash and emergency showers are in working condition and record in the provided checklist.
  • Stocktake of equipment and chemical inventory to ensure there is sufficient for all labs.
  • Arrange for equipment repairs and maintenance.
  • Every end or before term: Washing of used glassware apparatus, chemical trays, safety goggles, topping up of DI water bottles.
  • Review equipment needs within the department and collate on purchase of new and replacement of equipment.
Ad-hoc duties
  • Assist teachers from Primary level with loan of Science resources, arrange Science lab tour or short lab activity for students from Primary school.
  • Prepare practical assessment for Teachers when required.
  • Assist Sciecnce teachers with science fairs and field trips when required
  • Any other ad-hoc duties that may be assigned by the Senior Principal and/or Science Teachers
Qualifications
  • Diploma/Degree in life science or related course
  • At least 1-2 years lab experience preferred NEA training / certification
  • Basic knowledge on laboratory setting and material preparation.
  • Basic laboratory safety awareness.
  • Communication skills to relate to various stakeholders.
  • Adaptability to impromptu changes in laboratory requirement and oriented well with department direction.
  • Able to work well with others and self-paced work.
  • Responsible and accountable for own and team\'s actions.
  • Identify problems and rectify immediately.
