About the Role

This is a

foundational BI engineering role

-- the

first Power BI hire

within a growing analytics organization.

We're looking for a developer who can

build, own, and elevate the entire BI stack

, from curated SQL datasets to semantic models and enterprise-grade dashboards, while establishing

best practices for governance, security, and performance

across the business.

You'll be part of our

Forward-Deployed Engineering Team

, embedded full-time with one of our key clients on a

long-term engagement

, working alongside product owners, data engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to deliver analytics solutions that drive measurable value.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate within

Agile product squads

to define, prioritize, and iteratively deliver BI features that create business impact. Design, build, and optimize

Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards

, applying advanced

DAX

and

Power Query (M)

techniques. Develop and maintain

robust semantic models

that accurately represent business logic and enable governed self-service analytics. Implement and manage

Power BI Admin tasks

: tenant and workspace management, capacity settings, deployment pipelines, refresh scheduling, and monitoring. Design and enforce

data-security frameworks

, including

Row-Level Security (RLS)

, role definitions, and Azure AD / access-group management. Build and refine

SQL-based curated datasets / views

forming the

gold / semantic layer

for BI consumption. Partner with product owners and stakeholders to

translate business requirements into BI stories and deliverables

. Provide

advisory guidance

on modeling, governance, and adoption; mentor junior BI developers where applicable. (Bonus) Work with

Databricks, Synapse, Athena, BigQuery

, or similar modern cloud data platforms.

Key Outcomes (First 12 Months)

Establish and maintain a

scalable Power BI workspace structure

with clear governance and naming conventions. Deliver and promote a

shared semantic-model framework

for standardized business metrics. Implement

Row-Level Security and access governance

aligned with organizational roles and policies. Deliver a portfolio of

high-performance, high-adoption dashboards

embedded in business decision workflows. Build strong collaboration between analytics, engineering, and business teams, ensuring trust in data and BI outputs.

Qualifications & Skills

8+ years of professional BI/analytics experience

, with a primary focus on

Power BI development and administration

. Demonstrated expertise in:

Power BI Desktop / Service

- data modeling, relationships, calculations, performance optimization.

DAX and Power Query (M)

- advanced calculations, transformations, query folding.

Semantic modeling

- star schema, dimensional design, calculation groups, reusable datasets.

SQL

- dataset creation, joins, views, and performance tuning.

Power BI Admin & Governance

- tenant/workspace management, capacity configuration, deployment pipelines.

Security design

- RLS, role-based access, AD group integration. Experience operating within

Agile delivery teams

and cross-functional product environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder-engagement skills with the ability to

bridge business and technical discussions
