The Company

Our client is looking for an adept senior counsel to join a leading semiconductor MNC, specializing in cutting-edge electronic solutions with ambitions to expand out of China. The role serves as a multifaceted position, directly reporting to the head of legal and having an indirect reporting line to the CFO. This role will be central to their aggressive growth strategy with a regional HQ in Singapore supported by EDB.

Responsibilities:

Facilitate Expansion in Southeast Asia: Direct and enhance the global legal functions, encompassing various facets such as M&A deals, negotiation, capital market engagements, contracts, legal risk mitigation, and more.

Bolster Legal Safeguards: Enhance legal protections across the company and oversee legal and regulatory risks, encouraging best practices within the legal framework.

Offer Inter-Departmental Support: Furnish timely and appropriate legal assistance to different departments within the company.

Contentious Matters Handling: Oversee and organize the response to contentious issues involving company entities.

Lead and Develop Legal Team: Supervise the daily operations of the global legal team, serving as a mentor and guide for professional growth.

Engage with International Legal Firms: Choose and liaise with international legal service providers, maintaining vigilant oversight of their performance and deliverables.

Requirements:

Qualification and Language Proficiency: Must be a qualified lawyer in Singapore with proficient communication skills in both English and Mandarin (spoken and written) for seamless interaction with key Chinese stakeholders.

Extensive Experience: A minimum of 10 years\' post-qualification experience, including expertise in diverse investment types, corporate finance-related contracts, and drafting skills in English and Chinese.

Regional Legal Experience: Prior legal work in Singapore, Malaysia, and other Asian countries, with a focus on India, is advantageous.

Other Competencies: Must have excellent presentation, communication, negotiation, and influence skills, coupled with a highly flexible and adaptable attitude.

Travel Requirements: Some travel to Malaysia, China, and other Asian countries is expected for supporting regional investments.

Special Considerations: The ideal candidate will have 10-12 years of in-house experience with a focus on IP (especially in engineering/design IP issues), M&A (including strategic investments in manufacturing facilities in the region). A strong conversational ability in Mandarin would be a substantial advantage, given that most senior stakeholders are Chinese.
