Job Description

Summary: The Legal Counsel will be based in our Singapore office and will report directly to the Head of Legal - Asia & Middle East, while working closely with other teams to support our international operations across Middle East and Asia.

The position encompasses a fast-paced environment with generalist responsibilities while requiring specialized legal expertise in commercial contracts and regulatory matters related to the wealth management sector.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide expert legal advice on legal, regulatory, and compliance matters spanning a wide range of areas, as applicable to the wealth management business.
• Draft, monitor, and review template legal contracts, offering training to stakeholders on their proper implementation.
• Actively participate in negotiations, assisting in structuring and executing non-standard complex third-party contractual arrangements and other corporate transactions.
• Assist relevant teams in establishing new product offerings, defining the legal framework for the distribution of various financial products while managing legal exposure within the established risk parameters.
• Review, draft, implement, and monitor policies, processes, and procedures pertaining to legal support for relevant stakeholders.
• Provide clear, accurate, and commercially focused legal advice and support to the senior management team, ensuring that business objectives and targets are achieved while effectively managing legal risks.
• Proactively anticipate, identify, and manage legal risks, taking corrective action as necessary to safeguard the interests of SJP across Asia and the Middle East.

Key Requirements:

• Certification and qualification as a Solicitor/Lawyer, preferably with a common law background.
• 1-3 years of post-qualification experience, preferably in an in-house legal role.
• Excellent proficiency in the English language, with the ability to communicate and present effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-level matrix environment.
• Strong legal research and exceptional legal drafting skills.
• A self-starter with a proactive and positive work attitude.
